Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the joint motion kinetics of the shoulders, elbows, and wrists between experienced player (skilled player) group and unskilled player group when performing overhead standing smash in badminton game. The samples involved were 26 samples. The samples included 13 male badminton players joining Student Activity Unit who had achieved many achievements and had a high skill (skilled), while the other 13 samples were unskilled players, involving students who had just studied under one year. The mean of participants’ age was 19.4 ± 1.6 years, height was 1.73 ± 0.12m, and body weight was 62.8 ± 3.7kg. This study used 3 Panasonic Handycams, a calibration set, 3D Frame DIAZ IV motion analysis software, and a speed radar gun. Normalization of the kinetic motion score of the shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints was calculated using the inverse dynamics method. The t-test was used to determine the significance of motion kinetic difference of the two different groups. The results presented that the shuttlecock speed of the skilled player group, during the overhead standing smash, showed a significant difference. Meanwhile, the joint motion of the inferior shoulder force, shoulder anterior force, shoulder internal rotation torque, shoulder horizontal abduction torque, elbow anterior force, and wrist flexion torque were higher in the skilled players group than the unskilled player group.

Abstract

Wrestling is a fighting sport that requires strength, especially in the upper body. However, the strength training carried out so far is still conventional and monotonous, while literature studies have provided various other, more modern and effective alternatives for strength training, one of which is the Bulgarian Bag. This study aims to examine the effect of training using Bulgarian Bag on the strength of the upper body of wrestling athletes. Research on Bulgarian Bag itself is still relatively small because Bulgarian Bags themselves are still relatively new. The research method used is an experimental method with a pre-test post-test control group design. The subjects of this study were wrestling athletes in West Bandung Regency with 10 male athletes taken by total sampling from the population. The research instrument used was a dynamic endurance hand grip strength test and a push up test which was given 2 times to the subject. Subjects were divided into two groups, namely the experimental group which was given the Bulgarian Bag exercise and the control group which was given the conventional exercise. T-test using SPSS version 24 was performed as data analysis in this study. The results showed that the Bulgarian Bag exercise had a significant effect on increasing the strength of the upper extremity of wrestling athletes. So it can be concluded that training using Bulgarian Bags can be used as the right choice to increase the strength of the upper body of wrestling athletes. The authors suggest integrating these exercises into a structured strength training program.

Abstract

Children's cognitive development is a crucial part of their growth process, particularly in the areas of comprehension and memory. However, many children struggle to improve this ability. Exercise activities such as taekwondo are thought to be able to enhance cognitive development, although there have been few studies specifically looking at their benefits for Indonesian children. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of taekwondo-related activities on cognitive functions, particularly concentration, in children aged 6 to 9 years in the elementary stage. This study uses an experimental approach with 20 children from Sukabumi Academy Taekwondo Dojang, consisting of 10 children and 10 adults. Taekwondo exercises are performed three times a month for 21 minutes at moderate intensity (between 50-80%). The Stroop Colour Word Test (SCWT) is an instrument for assessing a person's ability to understand words, colours and word combinations. The paired T-test is used to analyse the differences between the results before and after the test. The results show a significant increase in the following three variables: Word-Colour Combination (t(19) = 10.491, p<0.001), Word-Colour Recognition (t(19) = 7.973, p<0.001) and Colour-Colour Recognition (t(19) = 8.063, p<0.001). The average score after the test was better than before the test, indicating an increase in concentration after the Taekwondo intervention. Taekwondo exercises significantly improve cognitive functions, especially concentration, in children aged 6 to 9 years. This study highlights the importance of incorporating sports such as taekwondo into early childhood education and development programmes.
