Abstract

Abstract

Convection is a mass production business, and this production scale is on the small industry scale. D'LimaLima small industry is a screen printing start-up small industry that was only founded in 2023. This small industry is interested in starting a T-shirt screen printing business in various sizes. This activity was carried out by providing training in making t-shirts for 1 day. Participants who are beginners have different learning times for each person and each type of machine. The training methods that will be used include: Lecture, discussion, practice. From the observations, it was concluded that for all participants as beginners, sewing one t-shirt took more than one hour. This is caused by the lack of skills in using the three types of sewing machines (overlock, chain, double stitch). It took the three sewing trainers less than 1 hour to make one t-shirt, because they were trained and used to using industrial type sewing machines like that. On average, participants needed 10 minutes and 5 re-stitches when sewing on patchwork. so it can be confirmed that participants also need to repeat the activity more than five times to become more skilled at using the machine

Abstract

The color fastness of ultraviolet (UV) ink on outdoor print media is a crucial aspect that affects long-term visual quality. This study aims to evaluate the effect of varying the duration of UV exposure on the color stability of UV magenta ink applied to flexi-based banner media. The testing process was carried out experimentally through artificial irradiation, with color change analysis using the CIE Lab color system and the ΔE parameter as an indicator of degradation. The results showed that the longer the irradiation duration, the higher the ΔE value produced, which indicated significant color degradation. This finding emphasizes the importance of applying additional protection, such as UV lamination coating, to improve the color fastness of prints for outdoor use.

Abstract

Color fastness in Direct to Film (DTF) digital screen printing is influenced by various external factors, one of which is exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. This study aims to evaluate the impact of UV light on the color stability of DTF prints on two types of fabric, namely 30s cotton and spandex rayon. A quantitative approach was used in this study, involving color difference testing (ΔE), washing simulations, and UV exposure. Based on the analysis results, cotton 30s demonstrated superior color fastness performance compared to spandex rayon, as indicated by lower ΔE values after UV exposure and washing processes. Conversely, spandex rayon experienced more drastic color changes, especially after being washed with bleach detergent. These findings emphasize that the selection of fabric materials and washing methods are critical factors.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the lightfastness of organic ink formulated from purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) pigment for screen-printing applications on 24s cotton combed fabric. The ink formulations varied the pigment amount (10, 15, and 20 grams) and solvent volume (distilled water) of 25 and 30 mL, while the binder and thickener components were kept constant. Lightfastness was assessed by measuring the change in lightness (ΔL*) before and after 24 hours of light exposure. The results showed that the formulation containing 15 g of pigment and 25 mL of solvent (P2A1) exhibited the best colorfastness, with an average ΔL* of 0.23, while the formulation with 10 g pigment and 25 mL solvent (P1A1) showed the poorest performance (average ΔL* of 1.86). A lower solvent volume resulted in higher resistance to light exposure. Moreover, using either too little or too much pigment negatively affected ink transfer and reduced lightfastness. Two-way ANOVA on log-transformed data revealed that the interaction between pigment concentration and solvent volume had a significant effect on ΔL* (p < 0.001), contributing 72.8% to the total data variation. This study confirms that achieving an optimal balance between pigment amount and solvent volume is crucial for producing organic ink with good lightfastness

Abstract

The processing of natural fibers as raw materials for paper has grown over the past few years. However, the use of composite paper as a printing substrate has several drawbacks. One of them is the low color reproduction quality of printed images on paper made from natural fibers, caused by the insufficient whiteness of the paper. This study aims to investigate the effect of titanium dioxide (TiO₂) addition on the color reproduction quality of composite paper based on sugarcane bagasse fiber. TiO₂ was varied at concentrations of 0%, 10%, and 20%. Printing process was carried out using an inkjet printer with standard CMYK and RGB color patches. After that, the printed results were measured using colorimeter with D65 illuminant. Color distribution analysis was processed using MATLAB software. The results showed that the addition of TiO₂ increased the whiteness of the paper, as indicated by the higher L* values. The color gamut visualization demonstrated that the gamut area expanded as the TiO₂ content increased. This result shows that the addition of TiO₂ affects the color reproduction quality of composite paper.

Abstract

The production process is a crucial aspect in ink formulation, especially violet spot color inks for gravure printing applications, which cannot be accurately reproduced through conventional process printing systems (CMYK). This research aims to optimize the production parameters of violet gravure inks that often exhibit color instability due to delays in the grinding and adjusting stages. The main focus of this research is to analyze the effect of variations in grinding duration, post-grinding aging time, and the amount of raw material on ink color yield, which is evaluated based on density, CIE Lab*, and ΔE parameters. The methodology used was a descriptive experiment on a laboratory scale. The results showed that the optimal treatment combination of grinding for 90 minutes, aging for 48 hours, and the use of 400 grams of material (P3K2L4) produced the highest density value (1.858) and ΔE (0.572), indicating color stability despite quantity variations. This finding indicates that optimization of grinding and aging time contributes to the improvement of pigment dispersion homogeneity and thermal stability of the resin, even without direct measurement of the transition glass temperature (Tg) value.

Abstract

The development of digital printing technology requires machines with high reliability and efficiency. The AccurioPress 6100 is a widely used digital printing machine that offers a speed of up to 100 pages per minute. However, the machine’s Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) at PT. OctoPrint only ranged from 45% to 53%, which is below the industry standard of 85%. This study identifies the gap in machine efficiency and proposes solutions based on OEE analysis involving Availability, Performance, and Quality indicators. The study adopts a descriptive quantitative method, collecting data through direct observation and interviews over a 14-week period. Preventive maintenance strategies were implemented to improve machine performance. The results showed an increase in OEE to 60–63%, supported by improvements in Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) and reductions in Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).

Abstract

Agricultural waste such as pineapple crown leaves (Ananas comosus) has not been optimally utilized, despite its high cellulose fiber content, making it a potential alternative raw material for paper production. One of the main challenges in this process is controlling the paper's moisture content, as excessive water content can reduce product quality. This study aims to investigate the effect of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) concentration on the moisture content of paper made from pineapple crown leaf fibers. Three NaOH concentrations (2%, 8%, and 14%) were applied during the pulping process to remove lignin and hemicellulose, followed by gravimetric analysis of the resulting paper’s moisture content. The results showed that the 8% NaOH treatment produced the lowest moisture content of 8.35%, while the 2% NaOH treatment resulted in the highest moisture content of 10.34%. One-way ANOVA indicated that variations in NaOH concentration had a statistically significant effect on moisture content (p < 0.001). The findings revealed a non-linear relationship between NaOH concentration and moisture content, with 8% being the optimal point. A lower concentration resulted in dense fiber structures that retained water, while a higher concentration led to the formation of cellulose II, which is more hygroscopic. This study highlights the importance of optimizing NaOH concentration in paper production from agricultural waste to achieve the best quality.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the color of organic ink based on coffee grounds charcoal as an alternative to conventional ink in screen printing. The experimental method was conducted with three variations of pigment formulation and distilled water, namely: 15 gr & 41 ml, 20 gr & 45 ml, 25 gr & 49 ml). Testing of solid content levels and Lab values was carried out to determine color characteristics, as well as delta E calculations to compare with conventional inks. The results showed the highest solid content in the 20 g formulation, but the 15 g ink distribution produced the closest color to the reference ink due to better flow. In conclusion, proper material formulation is essential to achieve optimal color quality.
