Abstract

Tonsillitis, especially among hospitalized children, can cause worse impacts or complications. Dynamic, planned, and patient-centered nursing care is needed, which can be done by implementing discharge planning. This study aimed to analyze and evaluate the implementation of discharge planning among hospitalized children with tonsillitis. A case study method involving one patient and his family in the pediatric inpatient room; was carried out from April 3 to 6, 2022. The results of this study show that the implementation of discharge planning has been carried out following the theory. Discharge planning is carried out when the patient enters until the patient returns with stages assessment to evaluation; besides that, from the implementation of discharge planning, there is an increase in parents' knowledge about disease and skills about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and nutrition/dietary pattern in children. This study concludes that discharge planning is important in providing nursing care because it can increase independence, knowledge, and skills in healing and maintain the patient's health status. It was needed for a more detailed discharge planning assessment format because this study only includes studies that focus on tonsillitis patients and are linked to theory. If it is implemented on patients with different diagnoses, it is necessary to update the assessment format.

Abstract

Patient safety culture has emerged as a global priority necessitating improvement to prevent patient accidents. Measuring the competency of healthcare workers concerning patient safety within health services is essential, and various instruments can be employed for this purpose. This study aims to analyze the instruments used to measure patient safety competency. Method: A systematic review was conducted using the PRISMA protocol and the JBI assessment tool to identify eligible articles. Two electronic databases, PubMed and Google Scholar, were searched. The keywords used in the research included “instrument safety culture in clinical settings”; “Safety culture instrument”; "instrument for patient safety culture". Inclusion criteria encompassed research on instruments measuring patient safety competency, published in English within the last ten years (2014-2024). Results: The review identified 15 articles that met the inclusion criteria. Four types of instruments were commonly used to measure patient safety competency: the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire (SAQ), the Manchester Patient Safety Framework (MaPSAF), the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (HSOPSC), and the TeamSTEPPS Teamwork Perceptions Questionnaire (T-TPQ). Conclusion: The instruments SAQ, MaPSAF, HSOPSC, and T-TPQ have demonstrated effectiveness in measuring various dimensions related to patient safety culture. To optimize the assessment of patient safety culture within health service facilities.

Abstract

Posttraumatic growth (PTG) refers to positive psychological changes that occur in individuals who have experienced traumatic events, such as nurses battling an underpressure situation during the COVID-19 pandemic. The attempts at measuring PTG are still limited due to the lack of instruments that suit natural variations caused by culture or language adaptation and sampling types. Although there are many studies regarding PTG, no comprehensive review has been found to identify the instrument measuring nurses' posttraumatic growth. Objective: The study aimed to identify research on instruments measuring nurses’ PTG during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: Five online databases (PubMed, Wiley Online Library, Proquest, Science Direct, and Google Scholar) were put under analysis to identify studies that report information on instruments measuring nurses’ PTG. Only studies published between 2020-2024 were involved in the analysis. The selection process was done using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews (PRISMA). Results: From the identification process, authors found 6,589 articles and after going through the screening and eligibility stages 24 studies were included in this review. Exploring PTG among nurses involves examining how they reflect upon and derive meaning from their experiences during challenging circumstances. Several instruments to measure PTG among nurses were identified, inter alia, Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI), Posttraumatic Growth Inventory Chinese versions (PTGI-C), Posttraumatic Growth Inventory-Expanded (PTGI-X), Posttraumatic Growth Inventory-Short Form (PTGI-SF), and Turkish, Polish, and Korean versions of PTGI. Conclusion: In general, the original version of PTGI has been adapted and translated into several languages to measure PTG among nurses during the COVID outbreak.

Abstract

Introduction: The globalization era makes the hospital service industry competition even higher, which requires hospital management to develop strategies to face competition. The efforts made by the hospital in the face of this competition by encouraging staff to engage in Organization Citizenship Behavior (OCB). Nurses as health workers who provide care to patients play an important role in being involved in OCB to build a positive image of the hospital. More and more staff involved in OCB can improve service efficiency, and patient satisfaction, and provide positive value to Hospital's Corporate Image (HCI). Objective: This study aims to compile an OCB-based HCI model. Materials and Methods: This study used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample involved 260 patients spread across five plantation hospitals that are members of the Indonesia Healthcare Corporation in The Eastern Salient of Java, East Java Province, Indonesia. Variables consist of 7 latent variables and 25 indicators.  Inferential analysis using SEM PLS. Results: The results showed that (1) the determinants of OCB were influenced by employee factors, company factors, and customer factors, (2) employee factors had the most influence on OCB which had a positive impact on HCI, (3) OCB was a mediating variable between employee and HCI factors, (4) OCB had a strong influence on HCI. Conclusion: The OCB-based HCI model is a model that is influenced by employee factors through good nurse interpersonal communication to improve nurses' OCB behavior through tolerance behavior (sportsmanship) to create a positive hospital image. Plantation hospitals in Indonesia that are members of the Indonesia Healthcare Corporation need to start thinking about efforts to improve employee factors through the competence of interpersonal communication of nurses in providing services to patients.
