Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan apakah ada peningkatan yang signifikan pada pemahaman membaca siswa setelah diajarkan dengan menggunakan tekhnik small group discussion. Penelitian ini dilakukan dikelas IXB yang berisi 26 siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan one-group pretest posttest design. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman siswa membaca teks anecdote dengan menggunakan tekhnik small group discussion meningkat. Nilai rata-rata siswa mencapai 13.61, di mana nilai rata-rata siswa pada pretest adalah 51.80 menjadi 65.42 pada posttest. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan pada pemahaman membaca siswa setelah mereka diajarkan dengan menggunakan teknik small group discussion.The aim of the research was to find out whether there is any significant increase of students’ reading comprehension achievement after being taught by using small group discussion technique. The sample of the research is IXB that consisted of 26 students. The research uses one-group pretest posttest design. The result shows that the students’ reading comprehension of anecdote text by using small group discussion technique increased. The gain of the students’ mean score of pretest and posttest was 13.61 where the students’ mean score was 51.80 in the pretest and 65.42 in the posttest. It can be concluded that there is a significant increase of students’ reading comprehension achievement after they were taught by using small group discussion technique.Keywords: anecdote text, reading comprehension, small group discussion

Abstract

Abstract: Negative and interrogative forms are the important elements of Englishgrammars that have to be mastered by SMP students. The learners need to havesubtantial capability of English grammar in order that they are able to speak andwrite correctly.Therefore, the objectives of this research are (1) to identify the frequencies ofoccurance of the students’ grammatical errors based on surface strategy taxonomyfound in their sentences, (2) to identify the frequencies of occurance of students’grammatical errors based on developmental category that are found in theirsentences, and (3) to find out which types of errors were mostly made by thestudents. Descriptive method was used in this research, where the data were takenfrom the students to draw conclusions. This research was conducted at SMPNegeri 8 bandar Lampung. The subject of the research was class VIII.H consistingof 34 students. The data gained were further analyzed based on surface strategytaxonomy and developmental category.Having analyzed the data, it is found that the students commited four types oferrors based on surface strategy taxonomy and developmental category, thehighest frequency of error types based on surface strategy taxonomy ismisformation error (63,17%) followed by misordering errors (23,36%), additionerrors (11,34%) and misordering errors (2,27%). While based on thedevelopmental category, the errors are: pre-systematic stage (44,75%), systematicstage (33,14%) and post-systematic stage (22,09%).The result shows that the highest number of errors occured is misformation. ThisIndicates that students have more serious problems in using grammar especiallytenses in present tenses. They might also be influenced by Indonesian grammar.And based on developmental category the most frequent errorr occured is presystematicstage. This might be due to the students’ lack of knowledge aboutgrammar. The errors students produced were possibly caused by some factorssuch as insufficient grammar mastery, lack of knowledge of present tenses andlack of awareness. In line with the result, it is suggested that English teachersshould not ignore the errors made by them. The teachers can give remedialteaching for the students and provide some tasks or exercises which enable themto practice using tenses.Key words : Students errors, present tenses sentences, negative and interrogative2

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know whether there is a significant improvement of the students’ speaking ability after being taught through Role Play.The population of this research was the Second year students of SMA Negeri 1 Tanjungbintang. One group pre-test and post-test design was used.The mean score of pre-test was 57.13 and post-test was 82.  It proved that the students’ scores increase significantly because p0.05 (p=0.000). It can be concluded that there is a significant difference of students’ achievement in speaking ability after being taught through Role Play technique. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada pengaruh terhadap pencapaian vocabulary siswa setelah diajarkan melalui parlour games  dan untuk mengetahui respon siswa terhadap pengajaran vocabulary melalui parlour games.Hasil menunjukkan bahwa siswa diajarkan melalui permainan ini tampaknya lebih menyenangkan dan tertarik untuk belajar kosakata sejak siswa dapat memberikan respon yang baik selama proses belajar mengajar. Proses belajar mengajar menantang dan melibatkan semua siswa dalam permainan. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari peningkatan nilai rata-rata siswa. Skor rata-rata siswa dari pretest adalah 56,50 sedangkan nilai rata-rata posttest adalah 63,40. Setelah membandingkan hasil pretest dan skor posttest, ditemukan bahwa ada peningkatan yang signifikan, skor rata-rata siswa meningkat 6,9 setelah treatment. Berdasarkan hasil, dapat disimpulkan bahwa mengajar vocabulary melalui permainan Parlour dapat memberikan pengaruh positif untuk meningkatkan prestasi kosakata siswa secara signifikan. This research was intended to find out whether there was an influence of  students’ vocabulary achievement after being taught through parlour games and to know students’ response toward teaching vocabulary through parlour games. The results show that the students taught through parlour games seemed to be more enjoyable and interested in learning vocabulary since the students could provide a good response during teaching learning process. The teaching learning process challenged and involved all students in the game. It can be seen from the increase of the students’ mean score. The students’ mean score of the pretest was 56.50 while the mean score of the posttest was 63.40. After comparing the result of the pretest and the posttest scores, it was found that there was a significant increase, the mean score of the students had increased 6.9 after the treatments. Based on the results, it can be concluded that teaching vocabulary through Parlour games can give positive influence to increase students’ vocabulary achievement significantly. Keywords: influence, parlour games, vocabulary achievement

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan (1) masalah yang muncul pada saat proses belajar mengajar berlangsung, (2) implementasi proses belajar mengajar yang efektif dengan menggunakan teknik Drill. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian tindakan dengan menerapkan siklus-siklus. Data penelitian diperoleh dengan cara observasi, wawancara dan rekaman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) masalah yang sering muncul berasal dari sulitnya siswa memahami apa yang dikatakan oleh peneliti dalam bahasa Inggris, (2) implementasi belajar semakin baik pada setiap siklusnya, siswa lebih berani dan percaya diri pada siklus selanjutnya daripada pada siklus sebelumnya.The research aimed at finding (1) the problems occured during the teaching learning process, (2) the effective implementation in the teaching learning process using Drill Technique. The subject of this action research was the second grade students in class VIII J of SMP N 4 Bandar Lampung, consisting 22 students. This research used action research through cycles. The data were collected through observation sheet, interview and recording. The result showed that (1) the problems faced often by the researcher came from their lack ability in understanding the researcher‟s speaking, (2) the implementation of the teaching learning process was getting better cycle to cycle, they were more brave and more confident talking English on the next cycle than on the previous.Keywords: action research, drill technique, effective implementation, learning process, teaching speaking.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti: i) peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman membaca teks naratif siswa melalui penerapan strategi Competitive Learning. Penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dengan one-group pretest - posttest design. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 30 siswa SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandar Lampung. Data penelitian ini diperoleh melalui pre test dan post test. Kemudian, data tersebut dianalisis dengan menggunakan Repeated Measures Sample T-test. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa pencapaian murid dalam pemahaman membaca naratif text meningkat dengan signifikan level sebesar 0.05. Ini menunjukkan bahwa strategi Competitive Learning membantu siswa dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa. This research was aimed at investigating: i) the improvement of students’reading comprehension achievement in narrative texts after the students were taught through Competitive Learning Strategy. This study was quantitative research with one-group pretest - posttest design of pre-experimental design. The subjects of this research were 30 students of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Bandar Lampung. The data were obtained from the pre test and the post test. The data were analyzed by using Repeated Measures Sample T-test. The results showed that the students’ reading comprehension achievement in narrative texts increased with the significance level 0.05. This suggests that Competitive Learning strategy facilitates the students to improve their reading comprehension achievement.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the students’ difficulties faced in comprehending English reading text and to know the factors of contributing to the students’ difficulties in comprehending English reading text. Furthermore, in this research used a descriptive qualitative study. In collecting the data, the researcher used reading test and interview. The data were analyzed based on five classifications to find out students' difficulties in reading comprehending and four factors of contributing to the students’ difficulties. The result of this study showed that there were difficulties were faced by students in their reading, namely determining main idea 63 mistakes (16.4%), understanding vocabulary 89 mistakes (23.1%), making inference 88 mistakes (22.9%), locating reference 86 mistakes (22.3 %), and detail information 59 mistakes (15.3%). In addition, based on students' interview result, the factors of contributing to the students’ difficulties in comprehending English reading text were students’ background, vocabulary problem, sentence problem, and rhetorical structure. In this case, by knowing the students’ difficulties in comprehending English reading text, the English teacher should learn better and be more creative in applying the techniques of teaching reading skill. Abstract

This research aimed to investigate whether there was an improvement in student’s reading comprehension before and after being taught through LRD strategy and find out their response toward the strategy. This research conducted at SMPN 3 Jati Agung academic year 2019/2020, with the total number of samples was 32 third grade students. The data collected by using multiple choice and questionnaire. To analyze quantitative data, the researcher used t-test while qualitative data applied scale Likert. The result showed there was an improvement in student’s reading comprehension after being taught through LRD strategy with the significant level 0.05. The students also agreed this strategy was easy to follow in the lesson to understand the materials. Abstract

The motivating problem of the current research is that the students’ reading comprehension ability is very poor. Therefore, the purpose of teaching language at school is to develop the students’ reading skill. Reading plays an important role in teaching and learning process. But, based on the information from the teacher in SMPN 2 Terusan Nunyai, sometimes the students still have difficulties in comprehending the text. They get difficulties in getting main idea, finding the answer questions and getting specific information from the text, like a narrative text which has long sentences and vocabularies usages. One of the efforts to overcome the problem is by using certain strategy, such as self-questioning strategy. Therefore, the objective of the research was to investigate whether self-questioning strategy can be used to increase the students’ reading comprehension achievement in narrative text or not. The researcher applied one group pre-test post-test design. The sample of the research was the second grade of SMPN 2 Terusan Nunyai, Lampung Tengah. One class was taken as the experimental class. The finding shows that self-questioning strategy can be used to increase the students’ reading comprehension achievement. It can be seen from the progress of students’ reading comprehension achievement after being taught through self-questioning strategy. The result of the research showed that the mean score of students’ post-test in the experimental class was 78.63 higher than the mean score of students’ pre-test was 58.63, with the mean difference was 20.0. The value of two significant was 0.000. It means that H 0 was rejected and H1 was accepted since 0.000 0.05.  Keywords: narrative text, self-questioning strategy, reading.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui aspek-aspek menyimak yang meningkat secara signifikan dan mengetahui kesulitan siswa dalam pemahaman menyimak melalui video. Subjek penelitian adalah kelas XI 4D IPA SMA Negeri 1 Pringsewu. Penelitian menggunakan desain one group pretest posttest. Data dianalisis dengan Repeated Measure T-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dari pemahaman menyimak siswa setelah diajarkan dengan video. Hasil analisis SPSS menunjukkan bahwa t-value lebih tinggi dari t-tabel (9,248 2.032) dan Signifcance 2 tailed (p = 0.000, p 0.05). Hasil t-test menunjukan bahwa main idea (p = 0.000, p 0.05), specific information (p = 0.004, p 0.05), dan vocabulary (p = 0.001, p 0.05) meningkat secara signifikan setelah treatment. Hasil interview menunjukan bahwa masalah yang sering dihadapi siswa adalah pengucapan, kosakata, kecepatan berbicara, dan logat penutur. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan video dapat meningkatkan prestasi pemahaman mendengarkan siswa.The purposes of this research were to find out the aspects of listening that significantly improve and to find out the students‟ difficulties in listening comprehension through video. The subject of the research was class XI 4D IPA SMA Negeri 1 Pringsewu. The study applied one group pretest posttest design. The data were analyzed by using Repeated Measure T-test. The results of the research showed that there was a significant increase of students‟ listening comprehension achievement after being taught through video. The result of SPSS analysis showed that t-value was higher than t-table (9.2482032) and significance 2 tailed (p=0.000, p0.05). The results of t-test showed that main idea (p=0.000, p0.05), specific information (p=0.004, p0.05), and vocabulary (p=0.001, p0.05) significantly increased after treatments. Results of interview showed that the most problem faced by students were pronunciation, vocabulary, speed of the speech, accent of the speaker. For the conclusion, the use of video can improve students‟ listening comprehension achievement.Keywords: aspects of listening, improving, video
