Abstract

The study aims to explore phenomenologically the experiences of “kyai kampong” at Madrasah ‘Tasywiqul Mustarsyidin’ Demak, Central Java, Indonesia. This study specifically emphasizes how personal transformation could result into larger social transformation. The experiences of Kyai Kampung at Maredan Village, Demak, Central Java reveals that certain principles of life drawn from a rich religious tradition have empowered local religious leader to transform himself  and his community. Religious tradition and local wisdom shape their daily life and  self-identity. Under the pressure of modernization and globalization values which are dominated by the value of consumerism and materialism, the kyais are still holding strongly the value of ‘ikhlas’ in their teaching tradition. Even though they strongly hold Islamic religious teaching, they do not ignore  the importance of local culture in their daily lives.

Abstract

This study aims to find out political strategy used by the Muslim-based political party to exceed the parliamentary threshold (PT) (3.5%) on the national election 2014, with the case study on National Awakening Party (PKB) and National Mandate Party (PAN). Even the survey agency has predicted that those political parties would not be able to reach PT, but the fact showed different. Both of the political parties managed to exceed the specified threshold. Based on the qualitative approach, this study found out that defensive strategy used by PKB, by consolidating and prioritizing the typology of rural voters with ideological approach (nahdliyin), utilizing prominent figures and artist as part of the campaign to achieve success. Meanwhile, by using offensive strategy PAN chose the typology of rural voters, while at the same time also optimizing the typology of urban voters, dialogical and psychological approach, basic societal issues, and the figure of the artist have been successfully gaining the significant voters.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the existence and orientation shift of the radical Islamic group movement in the era of democratic decentralization, with the case study of Islamic Reformist Movement in Cianjur, West Java, therewith influencing factors. Based on the qualitative method, the data collected from various sources reveal that there is an orientation shift of radical Islamic group movement in the era of democratic decentralization; from 'Islamism' to 'premanism’. 'Islamism', that usually becomes the main issue, has now shifted to the domination of economic resources. This orientation shift is one of the ways for its survival. Patron-client political model of the New Order regime appears but in different forms; its characteristics and forms are also more fluid. Before and during the beginning of the Reformation Era, the orientation of radical Islamic group movement is more dominated by ideological motive such as the implementation of Islamic sharia, while during the era of democratic decentralization, its movement orientation shifts to economic pragmatism.

Abstract

Since 1992 Graphic development of Syaria Bank in Indonesia continues to increase. The increasing number of branches of Syaria Banks in all regions is an indicator. But if viewed from the type of financing offered by Syaria Bank, the public interest especially the Muslim community to use it is low compared to conventional banks. People in the Islamic Higher Education environment, which became the focus of this research were more likely to use financial products in conventional Banks than Syaria Banks. There are several factors that cause the low public interest, such as environment, cost, product, process, competitors, personal trait (People), promotion, margin, Individual interests. From the results of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis test data indicate that each indicator or the forming dimension of each latent variable shows good and in a unified dimension. That is, all these factors really affect the people’s decision not to choose the financinal products offered by Syaria Bank in Indonesia.
