Abstract

Transportation stress in livestock can be caused by distance and travel time, crowding in the transport vehicle, malnutrition during transportation, climatic conditions, lack of availability of food and drink and lack of handling during travel. The aim of providing coffee peel-based UMMB is to overcome nutritional deficiencies and stress in livestock during transportation. This research was carried out experimentally with a non-factorial completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments K0 (without UMMB) as control, K1 (UMMB based on 10% fermented coffee peel), K2 (UMMB based on 20% coffee peel), K3 (UMMB based on fermented coffee peel 30%) and 4 repetitions. The research parameters are erythrocytes, hematocrit and hemoglobin. The results showed that administration of UMMB based on fermented coffee peel had a significant effect (P<0.05) on reducing erythrocyte levels (16.58%), decreasing hematocrit levels (18.30%) and decreasing hemoglobin levels (31.72%). The conclusion of this research is that administering coffee peel-based UMMB at a dose of 30% can reduce erythrocyte, hematocrit and hemoglobin levels in sheep transportation stress

Abstract

Worm infections in livestock can have a huge risk impact such as decrease in growth, body weight, meat quality and death. This study aims to determine the anthelmintic activity of young areca nut extract (Areca catechu L.) against Fasciola sp. worm eggs in goat feces in vivo and to determine at what concentration the young areca nut extract (Areca catechu L.) is effective in providing anthelmintic effects against worm eggs. The study used an experimental method with a paired t-test of 5 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments given were P0 (negative control), P1 (10% areca nut extract), P2 (20% areca nut extract), P3 (30% areca nut extract) and P4 (positive control using kalbazen worm medicine). Parameters were reduction in the number of dead worm eggs, lethal concentration,  effectiveness of areca nut extract against worm eggs. The results of the study showed that there were Fasciola sp. worm eggs in all tested goats. Treatment with young areca nut extract (Arecha catechu L.) can significantly reduce the number of Fasciola sp. eggs (P <0.05), with an LC50 result of 26.75%. The best Fecal Egg Count Reduction Test (FECRT) result in the administration of areca nut extract with a concentration of 30% (P3) of 56.75% was the same as that given treatment using kalbazen worm medicine and the lowest FECRT result in the administration of areca nut extract with a concentration of 20% (P2) of 29%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to establish the best proportion of salakleaf silage utilisation in complete feed based on dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility, pH value, VFA generation, and NH3 concentration. The method used in this study was experimental with a 4 x 4 Randomized Block Design (RBD), using four distinct treatment ratios and 4 times rumen fluid collection as a repeat group. The percentage of salakleaf treatments in complete feed were: P0 (15% elephant grass in complete feed), P1 (15% salakleaf in complete feed), P2 (30% salakleaves in complete feed) and P3 (45% salak leaves in complete feed). The observed variables consisted of dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility, pH value, VFA production, and NH3 concentration. The mathematical model used is an analysis of variance and if there are differences between treatments it is continued with the DMRT (Duncan's Multiple Range Test) test (Steel and Torrie, 1991). The results revealed that the treatment ration had no significant (P>0.05) influence on pH value and had a very significant effect (P<0.01) on dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility, VFA production, and NH3 concentration. This study concluded that using 30% silage of salakleaves in complete feed could maintain the pH value and increase the dry matter digestibility, organic matter digestibility, pH value, VFA production, and NH3 concentration.
