Abstract

Breast milk is the best nutrient for infants because it contains ideal nutritional value for infants. Unmet nutritional needs of infants can pose a risk of chronic diseases, impaired cognitive development of children, and inhibition of the infant’s gross motor development. The study aims to prove how much influence exclusively breastfeeding affects the gross motor development of infants aged 7– 12 months. Methods: The research design used was a descriptive method, with a case study approach. The data source was selected by puposive sampling technique. Result: Result of research in the field at the last visit, it is found that 10-month-1-day-old infant who was given breast milk exclusively by her mother in gross motor development occurred according to her age, shown to be able to maintain the neck rigidly, sit alone for 60 seconds without being denied pillows, chairs or walls, and learned to stand with both feet refute some of her weight. While infant is 9-month-28-day-old who was not exclusively breastfed, gross motor development was not yet appropriate for his age, where the infant was only able to maintain his neck rigidly, but had not been able to sit alone for 60 seconds without being denied pillows, chairs or walls and learned to stand with both feet refuting some of his weight. Discussion: The result of the study can be used as motivation and a source of educational reference for breastfeeding mothers to provide breast milk exclusively to the infant because exclusive breast milk is proven to affect the gross motor development of the infant. Researchers are next expected to conduct a thorough study on factors that can affect the growth and development of the infant.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Exclusive breastfeeding could be a protective step to avoid infant stunting. During lactation, several hormones are involved in milk secretion, including insulin. Polyscias scutellaria is a perennial plant which has traditionally been used to increase breast milk production. This study was conducted to examine the impact of P. scutellaria leaf extract on the mammary gland histology, expression of insulin in the mammary gland, as well as plasma insulin and the insulin receptor levels.METHODS: Five female unmated rats (UR) and twenty female lactating rats were divided into five groups, namely UR, lactating rats only (LRO), lactating rats treated with Asifit (LRA), lactating rats treated with PSAE at a dosage of 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight (BW) (LRPSAE 250 and 500). Treatments were given orally for 14 days. The dams were sacrificed after the weaning stage (third week after parturition), and the serum, mammary gland, liver, and muscle were collected for further analysis.RESULTS: The histoarchitecture of mammary gland between the LRA and LRPSAE groups were similar. The LRPSAE 250 group had higher plasma level and immunofluorescent expression of insulin than the LRA group. PSAE did not affect insulin receptor beta subunit (INSR-β) levels in both liver and muscle of lactating rats.CONCLUSION: PSAE could be used as an herbal treatment to increase breast milk production by improving mammary gland histology and maintaining the mother's insulin levels.KEYWORDS: Polyscias scutellaria, lactating rats, insulin, INSR-β

Abstract

The most prominent change in the third trimester in pregnant women is psychological changes. Trimester III is a phase called the waiting or vigilant period because pregnant women cannot wait for the birth of their babies. In this period, psychological changes that arise are fear, worry if the baby is born abnormally, fear of pain in the process of labor and fear of not being able to take care of the baby. Multigravida mothers, naturally also experience psychological disorders in the form of anxiety about the shadow of the pain she suffered in the past during childbirth. Especially for mothers who have experience with high-risk pregnancies, the anxiety level must also increase. Where this pregnancy has a high risk both during pregnancy and in the process of labor. There are also mothers who have experienced traumatic experiences and this has been shown to affect the anxiety of pregnant women in facing labor. The purpose of this study was to determine psychological changes in third trimester pregnant women in the Lawang Health Center Working Area. The design in this study was descriptive with a cross sectional approach. The population was 34 and the sample was also taken 34 people using the total sampling technique. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire with a closed interview method. Research result shows that on average (71%), their psychological change is quite good. The conclusion of this research result is that the average pregnant women doesn’t know about psychological change and this can be resolved with giving counseling about pregnancy. Hopefully when they’re checking their pregnancies in Health Center, pregnant women would reach out and talk about their complaint or public opinion, especially primigravida women in their third trimester, so it can decrease their worry about their fetus.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a health problem that continues to increase, especially in Indonesia. Health education is one of the main strategies in increasing public understanding of the dangers of DM, the importance of early detection, and the implementation of a healthy lifestyle. This community service uses education, demonstration and observation to evaluate the effectiveness of education and training on the level of knowledge and behavior of participants. A total of 30 participants participated in counseling and training on DM, healthy eating patterns, and physical activity. Measurements were taken before and after the intervention. The results of the community service Education increased participants' knowledge about the dangers of DM (50% to 85%), early detection (40% to 80%), and healthy lifestyles (45% to 90%). The training also increased understanding of choosing healthy food ingredients (55% to 85%) and processing low-sugar foods (50% to 80%). Participation in diabetic foot exercises increased by 20%, and other physical activities increased by 46.7%. Blood sugar checks showed that 66.7% of participants were in the prediabetes category. Education and training have been proven effective in improving knowledge and practice of diabetes prevention. Sustainable interventions are needed to reduce prediabetes rates and prevent the development of DM in the community.
