Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of crude protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) isolates supplementation into skim milk-egg yolk based diluent to maintain the quality of Merino ram spermatozoa.  Four ejaculates of two Merino rams were divided into two groups for the control group (P0): Merino ram semen was diluted in skimmed milk-egg yolk based diluent, and the treatment group (P1): Merino ram semen was diluted in skim milk-egg yolk based diluent contained crude PTK 1,597 mg/ml diluent. All diluted semen was equilibrated for 2 hours at 5 °C and filled into 0.25 mL French straws. The filled straws were placed on steel racks (Cooltop, Minitube) held in liquid nitrogen vapour for 10 minutes at –140 °C, immersed immediately in liquid nitrogen at –196 °C, and stored for 48 hours for  later assessment. Post-thawed semen samples were evaluated for spermatozoa motility, viability, and morphological abnormality. The results showed that the spermatozoa motility of fresh semen of Merino ram was 82.5 ± 2.89, which was qualified for freezing. The post-thawing spermatozoa motility, viability, and morphological abnormalities of Merino ram in the P1 group were 34.11 ± 3.26%, 38.00 ± 3.00%, and 12.89 ± 4.54%, respectively. It were higher (p <0.05) than the control group of 24.44 ± 2.9%, 26.67 ± 3.32%, and 21.11 ± 3.02%. It was concluded that the addition of crude PTK isolates of 1.597 mg/ml skim milk-egg yolk diluent improved the quality of post-thawed spermatozoa of Merino ram.

Abstract

Background: Estrus synchronization is a way to get a herd of cattle estrus at the same time. This method can increase the reproductive success of livestock, thereby increasing production and population. Purpose: To determine the estrus quality from estrus synchronized Boerja goats, in Trawas District, Mojokerto Regency. Method: Estrus synchronization using an intra-vaginal sponge contains hormone progesterone, combined with the injection of the hormone GnRH. an intra-vaginal progesterone sponge was inserted for 14 days. After 14 days, the goats were injected with the GnRH hormone, then placed in a cage with the male and observed for estrus quality. Result: the average onset of estrus was 40.6 hours, the average color of the goat's vulvar mucosa when estrus was 2.3 (dark pink), the average presence of mucus was 1.9 (excess vulvar mucus), the average mucus color is 2.8 (white), and the average temperature increase of the vulva when the goat is in estrus is 0.4 ° C. Conclusion: The observations showed that the estrus quality of the goats was very diverse and not all goats were able to show the maximum estrus quality. It can be due to genetic factors, body condition, and feed nutrition.

Abstract

According to the target, the targets of employee performance in the East Java Provincial Social Service cannot all be realized. The competence of Social Service personnel still needs to be improved, considering that social services are agencies that have the main task of social service and rehabilitation for people with social welfare problems. Analyze the extent of the improvement of the competence of Social Service employees and examine factors that affect the improvement of employee competence. The type of research used in research is a type of descriptive qualitative research. The sampling technique used in this study is purposive sampling, in this study, the informants are the Head of Social Services, the Secretary, and all Heads of Fields in the Social Service. Findings in the field show that the increase in competence carried out by the East Java Provincial Social Service to its personnel is still not optimal. This is due to several factors that hinder the improvement of personnel competence, including Trust and values, expertise, experience, personal characteristics, motivation, emotional issues, and intellectual capacity. The study concludes that the improvement of competence carried out on Social Service personnel is limited to attending work meetings, technical meetings, congresses, seminars, technical guidance, and workshops. Knowledge (knowledge) at least the social service apparatus related to tasks, principals and functions, work programs, and stages in carrying out work programs, not all personnel understand. The skills of the social service apparatus that must be possessed are the ability to compile, manage, evaluate programs and performance, manage finances and assets, and the ability to communicate, adapt and manage archives and information.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the prevalence and factors that influence the incidence of retained placenta in dairy cows reared under an all-day cowshed housing system at KUD Tani Wilis, Sendang District, Tulungagung. This study used 216 dairy cows, that had already calved, that had been identified to have medical and reproductive records for data exploration. Data collected included the sex and weight of calf, single or twin calves, age of the dam, cowshed structure (floor, puddles on the floor, gutter, distance of cowshed to waste disposal, type of floor and roof, and sunlight exposure), feed of the dam (forage, concentrate, mineral supplements), frequency of retained placenta cases on calving intervals and days open of the dams. The prevalence of retained placenta was presented descriptively. Factors related to the retained placenta and its effect on calving interval and days open were analyzed by Chi-square test using Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) software version 20 for Windows. The result showed that the prevalence rate of retained placenta was 19.91% of all dairy cow populations in the district. Furthermore, the sex of the calf, age of the dam, sunlight exposure, and the quantity of feed (forage and concentrate) were related to the retained placenta (p  <0.05). In addition, retained placenta increased along with extending of days open and calving interval. It could be concluded that the factors that influenced the prevalence of retained placenta were the sex of the calf, the age of the cow, the feed and concentrate, and the cowshed that is not facing the sun.
