Abstract

Lemongrass Leaves (Cymbopogoncitratus DC.) and Thatch Grass Leaves (Imperata cylindrical (L.)Raeusch) are medicinal plants belong to similary family. Their activity as natural antioxidant sources because it’s contains the flavonoids compound. This study aimed to determine the total flavonoid content on the ethanol extract of lemongrass leaves and the thatch grass leaves using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The extraction wasdone by maceration methodusing ethanol. The first sample is 3,95% lemongrass leaves, and the second one is 2,98% thatch grass leaves. The qualitative analysis by TLC method with the eluent ratio n-Hexane:ethyl acetate (6:4) showed that both samples positively contain flavonoids. The quantitative analysis by spectrophotometry at the maximum wavelength 431 nm showed that total flavonoid content in the first sample is 2,8666 % and the second sample is 3,4866 %.

Abstract

Clove is one of the plants that has the potential as an antibacterial. Clove, besides being known as a food flavoring, also has properties as an analgesic, bacteriostatic, and treat stomach cramps. This study aims to isolate and obtain a chromatogram profile of clove flowers (Syzygium aromaticum L.) against bacteria that cause dental caries infection. The search for bioactive compounds in this study was to isolate endophytic fungi in clove flowers and then purified and tested macroscopically. Then a screening test was carried out and then continued for 21 days fermentation using Potato Dextrose Broth medium to separate the supernatant and mycelia, then extracted using ethyl acetate solvents to obtain ethyl acetate extract. Antibacterial activity testing was carried out by TLC-Bioutography method using ethyl acetate: n-hexane (4: 1) eluent. The results of this study obtained five endophytic fungi isolates that were active against the bacteria Streprococcus mutans and Porphyromonas gingivalis. Isolates that have the greatest activity, namely isolates with the code IFBC-01. The results of TLC-Bioautography obtained one speck with a value of rf: 0.67 which means it has antibacterial activity.

Abstract

Abstract. Our daily life is very often in contact with free radicals which is one of the causes of disease. To neutralize the work of free radicals Antioxidants are needed. Antioxidants are compounds that donate one or more electrons to oxidant compounds. Jackfruit seeds often become waste that is not used by the community. Jackfruit seeds contain chemicals such as flavonoids, saponins and steroids. This study aims to study and determine the antioxidant activity of jackfruit seed extract (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) By the FRAP method (Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power). The sample was extracted using the maceration method and the extract obtained was analyzed using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 716.20 nm using quercetin as a comparison. Based on data analysis, the average value of antioxidant activity of jackfruit seed extract (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) Amounts to 4.8819 mgQE / g extract, meaning that each gram of extract contains 4.8819 mgQE which is in accordance with quercetin standards. This shows that jackfruit seed extract has antioxidant activity which is equivalent to quercetin. Keywords: Antioxidants, Jackfruit Seeds (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.), FRAP, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer

Abstract

Research on isolation of rhizosphere bacteria in patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth.) Plants. This study aims to obtain patchouli plant rhizosphere bacteria which have the potential to produce antibacterial compounds against bacteria that cause digestive tract infections. The first stage, isolation of bacteria originating from the patchouli plant rhizosphere. Antibacterial screening test using a match method, obtained IBRN-3 and IBRN-5 isolates inhibited the growth of all test bacteria. IBRN-3 and IBRN-5 isolates were fermented. The fermentation results are extracted with ethyl acetate solvent to produce dry fermentate ethyl acetate extract. Thin Layer Chromatography was identified on the ethyl acetate extract of IBRN-3 and IBRN-5 using chloroform: methanol (8: 1) eluent and followed by TLC-Bioautography test. The results of spotting on IBRN-3 with Rf value 0.93 inhibited the bacteria E. coli, S. aureus, Rf value 0.82 inhibited B. subtillis, S. dysenteriae, Rf value 0.64 inhibited S. aureus and S. thypii, Rf value 0.89 , 0.36, 0.24 inhibited S. dysenteriae, Rf values 0.84 and 0.74 inhibited S. aureus. Whereas for IBRN-5, spots were obtained with an Rf value of 0.91 inhibiting B. subtillis, E. coli S. thypii, an Rf value of 0.95 inhibiting S. aureus S. dysenteriae, an Rf value of 0.84 inhibiting B. subtillis, S. thypii, Rf value of 0.83 inhibits S. dysenteriae, and Rf value of 0.74 inhibits S. thypii.

Abstract

The study had been done about the correlation test betweenblood uric acid level, and urine uric acid cristal. The objective of this study was to find the correlation betweenblood uric acid level, and urine uric acid cristal. This studywas an observational study with cross sectional approach using serum and urine samples were taken from patients who have met the criteria of the study sample. The samples number are36 that all of them analyzed with test blood uric acid, and urine uric acid cristal. The data of result was processed and analyzed with statistic test of correlation test. The results of study showed that there are correlation between blood uric acid level and urine urine uric acid, that the more uric acid cristal exrated viaurine will make to reduce blood uric acid level.

Abstract

Fermentation  from jackfruit seeds (Artocarpus heterophyllus) through the Process Using Acid Hydrolysis. Bioethanol is ethanol fermentation process biomass results with the help of microorganisms. Raw materials for bioethanol is sugary materials, starchy and fibrous. This study tries  to make bioethanol from jackfruit seeds (Artocarpus heterophyllus) which is a starchy material. during these jackfruit seeds into consumption only partly public and partly not used. The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum concentration of H2SO4on the hydrolysis process and determine the optimum fermentation time in the fermentation process. The process of making ethanol in two steps, namely acid hydrolysis and fermentation. Cassava peel hydrolyzed by using a solution of H2SO4 in a variety of variable concentrations (0.1, 0.5 and 1 M) at a temperature of 100oC for 1 hour. Then a solution of the hydrolysis fermented with various variables days (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 days). The result showed that the optimum concentration of H2SO4 solution for the hydrolysis reaction is 1 M at a temperature of 100oC for 1 hour and the optimum fermentation time in the fermentation process is on day 4 where the produced ethanol at 13,19% v/v. Key words : Fermentation, Artocarpus heterophyllus, Hydrolysis

Abstract

Citrus (Citrus hystrix DC) and lime leaves (Citrus aurantifolia (christm) Swingle) are a Rutaceae family which contain flavonoids with antioxidant activity. The aim of this study is to compare the antioxidant activity of the citrus and lime leaves using DPPH free radical suppression method. The extraction of citrus and lime leaves by maceration method using ethanol 96 %. The antioxidant assay qualitatively by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) used the eluent n-hexane : ethyl acetat (7:3). The antioxidant assay quantitatively used DPPH free radical suppression method measured the absorption at the wavelength 515 nm. The results showed that the IC50 value of the citrus is 228.695 µg/mL. This showed that the potential of the antioxidant activity of the sample is weak; however, the IC50 value of the lime leaves is 335.064 µg/mL. this showed that the antioxidant activity of thev sample is not active.
