Abstract

Capabilities include competence, self-efficacy; self-confidence; self-discipline; to be responsible; self-initiative; and metacognition and what someone will bring to the workforce. This research strives to analyze the capability preferences of the prospective teacher in terms of learning independence. This descriptive study uses learning methods. Participants in this research were 21 students from the State University in East Java using purposive sampling techniques. The probing question is used as a research instrument. Descriptive data analysis. The consequences of data analysis explained that the ability in the aspect of high score learning skills was 85.4% responsible, 84.1% confidence, and 82.5% self-discipline. The conclusion of this study is the efficacy of the prospective student teacher from the perspective of independence learning shows the quality in the aspects of responsibility, self-confidence, and self-discipline. Nevertheless, the representative of self-establishment shows a lower trend correlated to other guidelines as much as 79.5%, or in other words, the meaning of participants is not optimum concerning their own desire for independence. This study reserves the need for further investigation into efforts to enhance the ability of prospective student teachers in higher education in theoretical and practical examinations.Keywords: Capabilities, Exploration, Learning independence, Promised teachers

Abstract

Abstrak Tujuan penelitian adalah melihat validitas penilaian otentik yang telah dikembangkan baik teoritis maupun empiris. Subyek penelitian ini adalah penilaian otentik yang telah dikembangkan. Penelitian yang telah dilakukan menggunakan desain penelitian R & D (Research and Development). Instrumen penilaian yang dikembangkan adalah rubrik penilaian project report dan presentasi. Penilaian yang telah dikambangkan diuji kelayakannya berdasarkan validitas teoritis dan empirisnya. Validitas teoritis diukur berdasarkan perspektif dari pakar, sedangkan kepraktisan dievaluasi berdasarkan pendapat mahasiswa terhadap penerapan penilaian tersebut. Hasil yang ditunjukkan penelitian ini adalah instrumen yang telah dikembangkan layak untuk diterapkan berdasarkan hasil validasi kepada pakar dan respon mahasiswa. Penilaian yang telah dikembangkan berada pada kategori ?sangat baik? dan ?baik?. Setiap item penilaian memperoleh skor 3 dan 4. Analisis kepraktisan yang digambarkan melalui hasil uji coba terbatas dan respon mahasiswa, menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa memberikan respon positif terhadap penerapan penilaian tersebut, meskipun ada beberapa bagian dari rubrik penilaian perlu untuk direvisi lebih lanjut.Kata Kunci: penilaian otentik, validitas teoritis, validitas empiris

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi bagaimana meningkatkan keterlibatan siswa dalam membaca dengan mengidentifikasi dan memahami strategi guru bahasa Inggris yang unggul dalam membina siswa dalam belajar membaca. Data tentang guru diperoleh dari wawancara dengan kepala sekolah dan guru. Selain itu, guru dipilih berdasarkan pengalaman mengajar, prestasi di tingkat nasional dan tulisannya tentang strategi membaca. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi-terstruktur dan analisis dokumen dalam bentuk rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran. Data dianalisis berdasarkan kerangka dari Guthrie dan Cox (2001) karena dapat mengakomodasi ketiga elemen dalam penelitian ini; strategi guru, keterlibatan, dan membaca. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa guru telah berhasil melakukan strategi yang menarik seperti kegiatan langsung, lingkaran sastra, pengajaran kuantum, pembelajaran kolaboratif, dan bimbingan teman sebaya, seperti yang disarankan di masing-masing fase kerangka keterlibatan membaca.

Abstract

Appropriate feeding practices are critical for gaining and maintaining nutrition and development in children. Previous study in feeding practices indicated that inappropriateness in feeding practices had consequences in children’s growth and development. This study aimed to determine corelation between parents strategy to attract children to eat and feeding duration to weight for age z-score in children. This was a simple random sampling, cross-sectional study and held on April to June 2016 in Dr. Soetomo Hospital and Husada Utama Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia. Subjects in this study were children from 6 to 24 months. Feeding practice determined by interview with children’s parents which consisted parent’s strategy to attract children to eat, feeding duration, and then children were measured weight for age z-score using WHO chart. Statistical analysis used Spearman correlation test. Thirty children were enrolled, 50% were male, with median age 16.5 months (6-24 months). Parents strategy to attract children to eat (53.3% talking, 30% playing and 16.7% watching television) had correlated signifi cantly with weight for age (r= 0.35, p= 0.028). Meanwhile, 56.7% children with feeding duration more than 30 minutes and 43.3% children with time feeding duration less than 30 minutes. Feeding duration had no correlation with weight for age in children (r=-0.32, p=0.43). We conclude from this study that parents strategy to attract children to eat had signifi cant correlation to weight for age but feeding duration had no correlation with weight for age. This study implied that strategy to attract children to eat is necessity in children physical development. Meanwhile, feeding duration has no signifi cant implication. We recommended children must be persuaded as part of parents strategy in order to attract them to eat.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Risk of acute respiratory infections in children less than 5 years of age is up to 95%. Zinc deficiency is one of the main risk factors. This study aimed to explore the effect of zinc on the bronchial mucosae inflammatory status expressed by nuclear factor (NF)-κB p105/p50, NF-κB p65, interleukin (IL)-8, and IL-1β.METHODS: Twenty-four Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups: normal zinc diet group without zinc supplementation (Z1), normal zinc diet group with zinc supplementation (Z2), zinc deficient diet group without zinc supplementation (Z3), and zinc deficient diet group with zinc supplementation (Z4). NF-κB p105/p50, p-NF-κB p65, IL-8, and IL-1β were measured by immunohistochemical staining.RESULTS: The inflammatory status of bronchial mucosae between Z1 and Z2 groups showed no difference (p=0.055). However, the inflammatory status of bronchial mucosae between Z3 and Z4 groups showed significant difference (p<0.01). Multivariate factorial design showed that zinc supplementation was beneficial when given to zinc deficient diet group with regard to decrease p-NF-κB p65, IL-8 and IL-1β levels (p<0.001) and increase dendritic cell (p=0.022).CONCLUSION: Zinc administration under conditions of zinc deficiency affects the inflammatory status, as shown by the decrease of p-NF-κB p65, IL-8 and IL-1β and the increase of NF-κB p105/p50.KEYWORDS: zinc, NF-κB, p105/p50, p65, IL-8, IL-1β, rat

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Airway epithelium is the first line of defense against a variety of exposures. Inflammatory processes, hyperresponsiveness and zinc deficiency cause epithelial damage. Zinc is involved in apoptosis and microtubule formation. However, its role in the integrity of bronchial mucosa and cilia is unclear.METHODS: To assess the effect of zinc on the integrity of the bronchial epithelium, 24 male Rattus norvegicus strain Wistar rats were randomized into four experimental groups: normal zinc diet group without zinc supplementation, normal zinc diet group with 60 ppm zinc supplementation, zinc deficient diet group without zinc supplementation, and zinc deficient diet group with 120 ppm zinc supplementation. Bronchial mucosal integrity was measured with the number of epithelial cells, and the number and length of cilia.RESULTS: Number of cell in normal zinc diet group was 8.8±1.82, while it was only 8.1±1.08 in zinc deficient diet group (p<0.001). Number of cilia per cell was 4.6±1.08 in normal zinc diet group, compared to 4.0±0.79 in zinc deficient diet group (p<0.001). Ciliary length also differ by 7.68±0.66 μm in normal zinc diet group and only 5.16±0.91 μm in zinc deficient diet group (p<0.001).CONCLUSION: Zinc supplementation of the normal zinc diet group affected the length of bronchial cilia. Zinc supplementation of the zinc deficient diet group affected the integrity of the bronchial epithelium, which was shown by the number and length of cilia, and the number of epithelial cells.KEYWORDS: zinc, bronchial epithelial integrity, cilia length, number of cilia, epithelial cell

Abstract

Latar belakang. Obesitas pada anak dan remaja meningkatkan risiko penyakitdegeneratif dan kardiovaskular. Namun belum jelas apakah remaja yang obesitas berisikomengalami hiperlipidemiaTujuan. Menilai hubungan antara indeks masa tubuh (IMT), asupan karbohidrat danlemak dengan hiperlipidemia pada murid SLTP yang obesitas.Metoda. Penelitian cross sectional di Yogyakarta. Sampel 109 murid SLTP dengan IMT =persentile-95 kurve IMT dari NCHS-CDC, dipilih secara acak dari murid SLTP yang obesitas,yang didapat pada survei obesitas secara cross sectional. Tinggi badan diukur denganmicrotoise dan berat badan diukur dengan timbangan digital. Data asupan karbohidrat danlemak diperoleh dari wawancara menggunakan FFQ periode 3 bulan terakhir.Hasil. Prevalensi obesitas murid SLTP 4,9%, hiperkolesterolemia 88,1% danhipertrigliseridemia 100%. Asupan lemak berhubungan dengan kejadian hiperkolesterolemia(OR=6,48; KI 95%:2,80-15,02) dan hipertrigliseridemia (OR=5,31; KI95%:2,34-12,07). Asupan karbohidrat juga berhubungan dengan kejadianhiperkolesterolemia (OR=5,43; KI 95%:1,85-15,92) dan hipertrigliseridemia (OR=3,71:KI 95%:1,34-10,27). IMT tidak berhubungan dengan kejadian hiperlipidemia.Kesimpulan. Peningkatan asupan lemak dan karbohidrat berhubungan dengan kejadianhiperlipidemia pada anak yang obesitas.

Abstract

Latar belakang. Penyakit infeksi dan gizi buruk merupakan hubungan yang sinergis. Serum albumin merupakan prognostik faktor yang penting untuk pasien gizi buruk terutama yang dirawat di rumah sakit. Pasien rawat inap dengan gizi buruk mempunyai risiko komplikasi klinis yang lebih berat, dan mortalitas lebih tinggi dibanding pasien tanpa gizi buruk.Tujuan. Mengetahui pengaruh penyakit infeksi terhadap kadar albumin anak dengan gizi buruk yang dirawat di rumah sakit.Metode. Penelitian analitik deskriptif retrospektif dari data sekunder status semua pasien gizi buruk dengan atau tanpa edema yang dirawat di bangsal anak RSUD Dr Soetomo, Surabaya sejak Mei tahun 2008-Juni 2009. Data yang diambil adalah data umur, jenis kelamin, dan status penyakit. Pasien dibagi dua kelompok, yaitu kelompok infeksi dan non infeksi, dan diukur kadar albuminnya. Analisis data menggunakan chi-square dan t-test.Hasil. Didapatkan 77 anak dengan gizi buruk tipe non edema, 44 anak dengan penyakit infeksi dan 33 anak dengan penyakit non infeksi. Nilai rerata albumin pada anak gizi buruk dengan infeksi lebih rendah dan bermakna secara statistik dibandingkan gizi buruk non infeksi (3,08±0,74 g/dL dibanding 3,56±0,99 g/dL, p=0,019). Anak gizi buruk dengan serum albumin rendah mempunyai risiko untuk mendapatkan penyakit infeksi lebih tinggi dibanding anak gizi buruk tanpa penyakit infeksi (RR:1,35, CI 95%:1,030-1,946).Kesimpulan. Kadar serum albumin yang rendah pada anak gizi buruk yang dirawat di rumah sakit lebih berisiko untuk mendapatkan infeksi.

Abstract

Latar belakang. Anak gizi buruk dengan dan tanpa infeksi HIV mempunyai tampilan klinis yang hampir sama. Jumlah limfosit total (TLC) dapat digunakan sebagai parameter respon imun selular pada anak gizi buruk dan sebagai penilaian penurunan respon imun selular pada HIV yang dapat dipakai sebagai skrining awal.Tujuan. Membandingkan jumlah limfosit total pada anak gizi buruk dengan dan tanpa infeksi HIV.Metode. Penelitian analitik deskriptif retrospektif dari data sekunder status pasien gizi buruk umur 0-60 bulan yang dirawat di bangsal anak RSUD Dr Soetomo, Surabaya sejak tahun 2004-2009. Data yang diambil adalah data umur, jenis kelamin, dan status infeksi HIV. Diagnosis HIV berdasarkan pemeriksaan serologi tiga metode dan PCR. Semua pasien gizi buruk dengan dan tanpa HIV dihitung jumlah limfosit totalnya. Analisis data menggunakan chi-square dan t-test.Hasil. Didapatkan 58 anak dengan gizi buruk dan 14 anak disertai dengan infeksi HIV. Nilai rerata TLC pada anak gizi buruk dengan infeksi HIV 2743 (1008-4479), sedangkan tanpa infeksi HIV 6260 (4755-7766). Kelompok anak gizi buruk dengan infeksi HIV mempunyai TLC lebih rendah dibandingkan tanpa HIV (2743 vs 6260) yang bermakna secara statistik dengan mean difference -3517(-5740 sampai -1295 ),p=0,003. Perbedaan bermakna terutama pada kelompok umur 12-23 bulan (2279 vs 7403) dengan mean difference-5124 (-9074 sampai -1168), p=0.015. Kesimpulan. Anak gizi buruk dengan infeksi HIV mempunyai jumlah limfosit total yang lebih rendah dibandingkan gizi buruk tanpa infeksi HIV terutama pada kelompok umur 12-23 bulan.
