Abstract

An experiment on the conception rates of local Palu goat artificially inseminated with sperms that were prepared in vitro with supplementation of tannin from Leucocephala with             a glucose extender was done in Palu and Sigi District, Central Sulawesi from June to November 2009. The sperm donors were 2 Ettawa Crosses aged about 2.5 years from which the sperms were collected with artificial vagina. Normal ejaculates (based on microscopic as well as macroscopic analyses) were prepared into liquid sperms suitable for artificial insemination (AI). A diluted sperm with 18.9% glucose extender served as the control (K0) and this was directly (day 0 after dilution) used to inseminate 19 PGF2α-synchronized goats. For treatment group, a dlituted sperm was supplemented with Leucocephala tannin (2.5% per ml sperms) and was used to inseminate 22 female goats after being frozen for 14 d at 14°C. Spermatozoa concentration for the two preparations was similar  (200 x 106 cell/ml/AI). It was found that the conception rate for the control group was 73.68% while for the treatment group was 95.45%.Key words : Artificial Insemination (AI), conception rate, Leucocephala Tannin, local goat Palu, sperm preparation.

Abstract

Research on “determination of AI timewithout estrus synchronization in post partum period beased on estrogen hormone profile and LH in local goat ", is part of the National Strategic Research Grant, which is funded by the University Tadulako in Fiscal Year 2010. The research was done at the Laboratory of Physiology and Reproduction, Faculty of Animal Science, University of Gajah Mada (UGM), Integrated Research and Testing Laboratory  UGM, Laboratory of Obsterics, Department of  Animal Reproductive Medicine, University of Airlangga,  group of Goat farmers in the city of Palu. This study aimed to find solutions to the failure of the AI implementation Central Sulawesi, due to the limitations of frozen sperm, liquid Nitrogen, and the expensiveness of estrus synchronization hormon. Post partum local goatwas used as experimental animal. Blood was taken for  analysis  estrogen and LH hormones  (immunometric assay) in one estrous cycle, namely in 36 -55 days after giving birth. Implementation of the AI (without estru synchronization) was based on the time and the highest concentration of estrogen (1000 ρg / ml, as treatment 1), the concentration of LH surge (160 ηg / ml: treatment 2), and on the first day after the LH surge (as treatment 3), while the implementation of the AI with estrus synchronization was as the control (treatment 0). The AI implementation was done by using liquid sperm of Etawah cros-bred goat  that were prepared with 2.5% tannin (leucocephala) supplementation per ml sperm. Conception rate (conception rate: CR) of AI was calculated based on the percentage of non pregnant femalesd (nonreturn Rate: NRR) of total females artificially inseminated, where the treatment 1 was 20%, 73.3% (treatment 2), 60% (treatment 3), and Control of  86.6%.Key words: Estrogen hormon and LH, Postpartum, AI, estrus synchronization, and local goat.

Abstract

A’true experiment’ research on Boer and Boerawa goats reproductive ability for improving local goat genetic through Artifian Insemination (AI) was conducted at a village farm in Wani I, Kayu Malue, Palu Utara, Donggala district, Central Sulawesi from March to Desember 2002.  This study aims at improving the genetic and production of Palu local goat by improving their reproductive efficencies. A “true experimental design” was applied in which the reproductive ability of male goat from two different breeds was tested on female local goat through AI.  Descriptive analysis of semen and spermatozoa qualities showed that Boerawa breed had higher semen quality (D/+++/90%) than male Boer (SD/++/75%).  Proporsional statistical analysis indicated that Conception Rate (CR) of female local goat that was artificially inseminated with Boerawa semen (CR : 100%) was significantly higher (P<0.05) than those of female local goat inseminated with Boer semen  (CR : 60%). Considering the importance of improving the production and productivity of local goat in Central Sulawesi through improving reproductive efficiency, basic or applicative experiments on the reproductive adaptation of high production breeds to improve genetic potential of local breed are continuosly needed.

Abstract

Research problem was lack of information regarding reproductive disorders that cause failure of artificial insemination and factors causing level and stages of reproductive failure of Donggala cattle. Therefore, the objective current study is to explore information of reproduction insemination failure on the stage of ovary and estrus abnormalities that influence the success of artificial insemination and factors causing reproductive disorders in Donggala cattle at each stage of reproduction. This research was a descriptive study carried out in Sindue sub-district, Labuan sub-district, Central Banawa sub-district and South Banawa in Donggala Regency which lasted from July to November 2016. The study used 121 samples of Donggala cattle belonging to the local farmers group. The cattle samples were cows that in dry period, not pregnant, not lactating and not in an estrus state. The variables of this study are reproductive disorders including anatomical ovarian abnormalities (ovarian hypoplasia, persistent corpus luteum) with rectal palpation approach (direct palpation) and abnormalities of estrus (subestrus, disguised estrus, anestrus) with observation. Fertility variables were non rutern rate (NRR) and conception rate (CR) as the focus on the success of Artificial Insemination (AI). Research variables showed that the percentage of reproductive disorders was much lower with NRR and CR values than normal ovarian values higher than AI evaluation results. The conception rate of the first AI results in Donggala cattle with normal anatomy and ovarian function was 95.6% (87/91 head). Furthermore, ovarian hypoplasia was 9%, (2/22 head), whereas persistent corpus luteum did not occur conception.
