Abstract

experiment used 24 healthy dogs, aged between 1 and 2 years, both male and female which were divided into twodifferent groups consisting of 12 dogs each. The first group was the treatment group, that is they were infected with Mtuberculosis and the second one was the control group. The activity of macrophages ROI secretion were measured at1st, 2nd, 12th, and 24th after infection using nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) reduction assay. Three cats were used to measure themacrophage activity in each period, using triplicate sample for each cat. The results of the experiment showed thatROI secretion increased in infected group compared with the control group, and this activity reached to the plateaulevel at 2 weeks after infection. Although these enhanced activities were gradually diminished thereafter, higherlevels of these activities were consistently observed until the end of experiment compared with control group. Theresults of the experiment indicated that ROI played an important role to against M.tuberculosis infection in dogs.Keyword: macrophage, ROI, M.tuberculosis, dogs

Abstract

Early diagnosis is one of the important methods to  control tuberculosis because this disease is zoonotic which easily spread through the air. Early detection of tuberculosis in dog is also very important since dog as petanimal have a potency to transfer the disease to human or other animals. The discovery of two specific M.tuberculosisantigens, ESAT06 and CFP-10, provide the opportunity to developa specific diagnostic kit for tuberculosis by using ELISA based on the secretion of IFN-γ. The development of a tuberculosis diagnostic kit based on this molecular biology and immunological method would provide a good alternative method to detect tuberculosis specially, accurately as early as possible. The result of this experiment would provide contribution for the development of health science and technology, especially in the eradication of tuberculosis. Keywords: diagnosis, tuberculosis, ESAT-6, CFP-10, interferon-gamma.

Abstract

Various diseases could affect dogs, including disruptions of the gastrium caused by the presence of foreign objects. The dogs’ habit of consuming miscellaneous objects around them was the common cause for the said objects, which should not exist within their body, to be swallowed and enter the stomach. This kind of case is often found among the growing puppies of large breed dogs [1]. This report aims to reveal the case of foreign objects finding within the gastrium of a dog patient handled at Klinik Hewan Jogja. In this particular case, we found foreign objects in the form of many nails and an assortment of metal wire pieces inside the gastrium of mixed breed dog Messi.

Abstract

Companion Vector Borne Diseases (CVBD) are diseases transmitted by vectors which can cause fatal outcome for dogs [1]. CVBD frequently attack dogs and are easily transmitted from one dog to other dogs through vectors’, such as ticks, mosquitoes, or sand flies, bite [2,3]. Some of the most harmful CVBD that infect dogs via ticks’ bite are anaplasmosis, babesiosis, and ehrlichiosis [4]. These diseases cause decreased appetite, lethargy, fever, anemia, jaundice, emaciation, and finally death if not treated properly [5,6].Blood parasites’ infections such as anaplasmosis, babesiosis, and ehrlichiosis are often found in the field. However, due to the limitations of diagnosis confirmation, they often go unnoticed. Despite the considerable number of cases in dogs, the exact incidence rate is not yet known. There is an global call to eradicate CVBD owing to the facts that they are dangerous and may cause economic losses, with the additional risk of being zoonotic [1,3].Taking the importance of anaplasmosis, babesiosis, and ehrlichiosis in the veterinary science into account, seeing the scant amount of data regarding dog patients followed with the lack of attention on said diseases, it is then deemed necessary to properly diagnose those diseases in dogs brought into the clinic, particularly at Klinik Hewan Jogja. This research aims to identify the number of dog patients treated in Klinik Hewan Jogja infected with those particular sicknesses (CVBD).The result of this study will provide a summary of CVBD treated at Klinik Hewan Jogja, which in turn, will raise awareness of the diseases and the significance of working together to tackle the issue. Furthermore, the result will also yield information for clients’ education to help them prevent the diseases.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of the combination of mix culture bacteria (EM4®:E) and fungi (Trichoderma viridae:TV) on physical quality and in vitro rumen fermentation parameters of peanut hull-based feed supplements. Basal feed was divided into four treatments, which were: P0 (BF); P1 (E:25%+TV:75%); P2 (E:50%+TV:50%),; and P3 (E:75%+TV:25%); and each treatment had three replications. Feeds were fermented facultative anaerobically for nine days. The observed parameters were physical qualities (color, odor, fungi appearance and pH), and in vitro rumen fermentation parameters (rumen pH, microbial protein content, and total volatile fatty acid content). Data were analyzed using one way ANOVA design, and the significance of differences were tested using Kruskall-Wallis test for the physical qualities data and Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DMRT) test for in vitro rumen fermentation parameters. Results showed that the combination of E and TV at different level did not affect odor and the fungi appearance parameters (P≥0.05), however, it significantly affected P≤0.05) color change from blackish (1.64) in P0 to brownish in P1, P2 and P3 of 2.44; 2.69; and 2.80, respectively. The pH also decreased significantly (P≤0.05) by 10.67%.  Treatment also did not affect the rumen pH, microbial protein content, and total volatile fatty acid content (P≥0.05). It is concluded that the combination of the EM4® 25%: Trichoderma viridae 75% on peanut-hull based feed supplement fermentation gives the best result on color and pH fermented feed product without affecting the rumen fermentation process.
