Abstract

The role of women in development up to now has not been maximally played although reformation era has opened thespace for women to actively participate.Related to pilkada (local election), women empowerment should be considered as an interesting andimportant issue for campaign. However, based on the cases elaborated in this research, most candidates did not take into account womenempowerment programs as political communication strategy in campaign. There are two reasons which can logically explain thisphenomenon; first, women empowerment issue was not considered as important as other issues which can directly answer the crucial socialproblems such as poverty alleviation, providing job opportunities for unemployment or dealing with expensive fee for education so that noteffective to attract the voters. Second, there was an assumption that sex does not have significant relation with political choice of voters. Itmeans female voters do not always vote for female candidates or candidates focusing on women empowerment programs. Finally, issuesrelated to women role improvement were not much included in campaign materials of either male or female candidates to catch theattention of voters.

Abstract

Abstract. Migration has been a defining aspect of the Asian regional economy for decades. This research delves into the dynamics of Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan, with a specific emphasis on comprehending the factors contributing to their increasing presence, the living and working conditions they encounter, and the level of legal protection provided by both Indonesia and Taiwan. Employing a combination of qualitative methods and adopting a descriptive analytical approach, the study examines the labor migration patterns and circumstances of Indonesian workers in Taiwan. The findings reveal that Indonesian domestic workers in Taiwan are driven by both “push and pull factors” and the contemporary economics of labor migration. Notably, these factors include better job opportunities and higher wages in Taiwan. However, despite their significant contributions to the host country's economy, both Indonesia and Taiwan fall short in upholding the rights of these workers according to international standards, such as ILO Convention No. 189 on Domestic Workers, adopted in 2011. Nevertheless, this research illustrates the unwavering determination of domestic workers in their quest for improved conditions and acknowledgment, as they collectively challenge discriminatory policies. These findings underscore the pressing need for legal protection, both nationally and in accordance with international conventions like ILO Convention No. 189, which would recognize the labor rights and dignity of domestic workers. Consequently, this study offers valuable insights into the complex landscape of labor migration and the essential role of protective measures in shaping the experiences of Indonesian workers in Taiwan. Keywords: Indonesian migrant workers, Labor migration, Taiwan, Migrant rights, Working conditions Abstrak. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine how to enhance the critical thinking of young people through digital literacy skills. Furthermore, the ability to think critically is seen from the perspective of building active participation in general elections in Indonesia. A literature review was used as the research approach in this study.  The results show that based on the challenges of digital life, the younger generation falls into two categories: objects and subjects in general elections. The dominant key to the success of digital literacy lies in the ownership of digital literacy skills, more specifically leading to critical thinking in responding to all events in the general election phenomenon in Indonesia. The design of the digital literacy-based democracy movement includes viral party centers, online forums, digital party organizations, online campaigns, and online protests. Abstract

This research examines the legal approach to terrorism in Indonesia, focusing on the regulatory framework established by Government Regulation in Lieu of Law No. 1 and No. 2 of 2002, later amended into Law No. 15 of 2003. The background of the study involves a series of terrorism events, such as the Bali bombings in October 2002, prompting the government to respond with significant legal changes. The aim of this research is to analyze the impact and effectiveness of legal changes in addressing terrorism, considering both preventive and repressive aspects. The research method involves analyzing legal texts and related documents, utilizing a descriptive approach to understand the implementation of these laws. The problem formulations include evaluating the concepts of counter-radicalization and deradicalization as preventive strategies, as well as examining the sustainability of law enforcement efforts and terrorism financing. The research findings indicate that existing laws reflect the government's responsibility to protect citizens and secure the territory from cross-border terrorist threats. However, there are criticisms of the universal definition of terrorism and substantial weaknesses in the Terrorism Law, including aspects of criminal procedural law and human rights. In conclusion, there is a need for improvements in positive law, including the possibility of amending the Terrorism Law to ensure an effective response to evolving and complex terrorism threats.

Abstract

The defeat of incumbents in Indonesia’s 2024 concurrent regional elections reflects deeper issues in local electoral dynamics. In Subang Regency, the incumbent pair—Ruhimat and Aceng Kudus—lost despite holding office for five years and benefiting from institutional and political capital. This study aims to examine the factors behind this electoral defeat, using a sequential explanatory mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data were collected through closed-ended questionnaires from 400 voters across Subang sub-districts, while qualitative insights were drawn from in-depth interviews with five key informants. The findings reveal that while several variables influenced the outcome—including public dissatisfaction, weak campaign messaging, and fragmented political alliances—the most significant factor was political money. A total of 69.75% of respondents admitted that financial incentives had a decisive influence on their voting decisions. These findings underscore how clientelism and vote-buying practices continue to undermine the performance-based evaluation of candidates. The study concludes that political money remains a powerful determinant in regional elections, with significant implications for democratic accountability and electoral reform in Indonesia.
