Abstract

Balada Cenderawasih is a traditional dance of Papua which is performed by a group of dancers in the costumes resembling beautiful Paradise birds. The dance is often performed in many important events in Merauke. This study aims to find out the role of Balada Cencerawasih as a kind of ballad from Papua beyond an art show. Two subjects were studied; the dance and the owner of traditional dance studio. Through overt observation over the dance, and semi structured interview with the owner of traditional dance studio, it was collected the data and were analyzed using Spradley qualitative model. The study shows the roles of Balada Cenderawasih are as; 1) Cultural identity; through the motions, language and symbols; 2) Regional wealth, both material and cultural heritage; through the show includes costumes, musical instruments and the dancer attributes; and 3) Environmental protection; through the values include moral, religious and education.Keywords: balada cenderawasih, ballad, role, traditional dance

Abstract

The phenomenon of children suffering from malnutrition in the Asmat Regency, Papua Province is still the subject of national media coverage and is one of the benchmarks of the government's success in implementing pro-people programs. This community partnership activity is intended to increase knowledge, understanding, and skills of the parents of pre prosperous families live in the border regions of the Republic of Indonesia/Papua New Guinea (RI/PNG) in processing and utilizing local food as a source of nutritional intake. Method of the activity consisted of: training and mentoring. The improvement program uses standard limits on eligibility and limits on achievement of change. The Community Partnership Program (PKM) has succeeded in increasing the knowledge and care of parents of pre-prosperous families for the nutritional needs of their sons and daughters, and improving the parents’ skills in growing local food using home yards. Increased skills can be seen from the results of the creativity of citizens in making food creations that are in accordance with the concept of adequate nutrition using local food.

Abstract

Fakta mengejutkan tentang posisi Indonesia dalam daftar urut negara dengan minat baca sangat rendah melatarbelakangi munculnya sebuah program yang disebut Gerakan Literasi Nasional (GLN) yang dicetuskan oleh Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan. GLN bertujuan membangun budaya literasi sebagai implementasi Peraturan Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan No 23 Tahun 2015 tentang Penumbuhan Budi Pekerti. Dalam programnya, GLN memiliki tiga ranah, salah satunya adalah Gerakan Literasi Sekolah (GLS) dengan sasaran sosialisasi panduan yakni para pendidik, kepala sekolah dan tenaga kependidikan di Sekolah Dasar.Dalam panduan tersebut dipaparkan beberapa langkah dan metode yang dapat dikembangkan dalam program GLS di sekolah dasar. Dengan dasar tersebut, maka kegiatan workshop tentang Gerakan Literasi Sekolah di sekolah dasar yang memiliki permasalahan dalam minat baca dan tulis siswa perlu dilakukan. Kegiatan dilaksanakan di SD YPPK Yos Sudarso Kuper dengan sasaran utama kegiatan adalah guru dan kepala sekolah dengan total jumlah peserta 10 orang dan selanjutnya melibatkan siswa SD YPPK Yos Sudarso Kuper yang berjumlah 47 siswa dalam kegiatan simulasi. Pengabdian ini dilakukan dalam bentuk workshop yang meliputi sosialisasi dan pelatihan penyusunan program melalui metode pelatihan, penerapan dan pendampingan. Materi kegiatan pengabdian dibagi menjadi dua yakni Gerakan Literasi Nasional yang didalamnya mencakup Gerakan Literasi Sekolah, dan Literatur/Sastra sebagai media penunjang dalam penyusunan program GLS.Kegiatan dilaksanakan selama tiga hari; hari pertama dan kedua adalah workshop, hari ketiga adalah simulasi penerapan program GLS yang telah disusun. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah;1) Pemahaman guru dan seluruh pihak sekolah tentang Gerakan Literasi Nasional lebih khususnya Gerakan Literasi Sekolah, 2) Kemampuan guru dan seluruh pihak sekolah dalam menyusun sebuah Program GLS yang dapat diterapkan di lingkungan SD YPPK Yos Sudarso Kuper, dan 3) Penerapan program GLS yang terorganisir dan berkelanjutan untuk meningkatkan minat dan kemampuan baca dan tulis siswa melalui program membaca 15 menit sebelum pelajaran dimulai, perpustakaan mini dan pojok baca mading, lingkungan kaya teks, dan pelibatan publik. Abstract

Kebudayaan diperoleh dari proses belajar, bukan diturunkan secara biologis atau pewarisan melalui unsur genetis, maka jika tidak dipelajarinilai-nilai kearifan lokal masyarakat setempat lambat laun akan musnah. Salah satu cara mempelajarinya adalah melalui kegiatan penelitian. Penelitian yang mengusung tari pangkur Sagu yang merupakan tari tradisional Papua ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan dan menggambarkan nilai-nilai kearifan lokal masyarakat Papua yang terkandung secara tersirat di dalam tarian tersebut. Adapun urgensi dan kontribusi penelitian ini adalah selain sebagai wujud upaya melestarikan dan menjaga nilai-nilai kearifan lokal masyarakat Papua, juga mengungkapkan unsur-unsur atau pesan yang terkandung dalam sebuah tarian agar dapat lebih diapresiasi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan tiga objek penelitian yakni tari pangkur Sagu itu sendiri, pimpinan sanggar sebagai informan, dan naskah sinopsis tari pangkur sagu. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan triangulasi teknik dengan menggabungkan observasi terus terang tersamar dan wawancara semiterstruktur dan dokumentasi berupa naskah. Adapun taknik analisis data dilakukan menggunakan model analisis oleh Miles dan Huberman yakni data reduction, data display, dan verification. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa berdasarkan klasifikasi jenis kebudayaan nilai kearifan lokal dalam tari tradisional Pangkur Sagu adalah; 1) Nilai gotong royong dan nilai hidup berkelompok, 2) Sistem Kepemimpinan Ondoafi dan Peran Pria dan Wanita, 3) Patuh melaksanakan peran masing-masing sesuai identitas, 4) Senantiasa bersyukur kepada Tuhan, 5) Melestarikan ritual Pangkur Sagu sebagai mata pencaharian pokok, 6) Bersuka cita atas rejeki yang diperoleh bersama, 7) Menunjukkan identitas gender, identitas status sosial, dan identitas marga Marind/suku Papua. Sedangkan berdasarkan klaisifikasi unsur-unsur kebudayaan adalah; 1) Bahasa Marind yang merupakan bahasa suku asli Merauke Papua, 2) Kehidupan yang belum terjamah arus teknologi, 3) Mata pencaharian bergantung pada hasil hutan, 4) Kepemimpinan Ondoafi, 5) Keahlian turun temurun dalam memangkur sagu, 6) Berdoa dan berbisik pada bumi sebagai aktifitas bersyukur kepada Tuhan, 7) Seni tari tradisional yang mengandung seni ukir, seni musik, seni tarik suara, dan seni kerajinan tangan. Deskripsi nilai kearifan lokal masyarakat Papua saling berhubungan satu nilai dengan nilai lainnya. Kata Kunci: kearifan lokal; nilai; ondoafi; tari pangkur sagu; tari tradisional

Abstract

Some of the best literary works around the world are very good to learn, such as a poem “Ode on a Grecian Urn” by John Keats which is phenomenal by the quote “Beauty is truth, truth beauty”, and in prose, the work from Kate Chopin entitled The Awakening which is also phenomenal by the way the story ends. By using the theory of comparative literature, this study aims to describe the intense feeling of two different kinds of literary work by depicting their similarities and differences. The analysis shows that those works provide the description of different feeling delivered by each author. Keats presents the poetry in romantic mood, full of cheers and energy, although it serves momento mori. While Chopin presents the prose in elegiac or tragic mood. Those feeling are depicted throughout the way both authors represent the values of their works. Three values which are depicted in its similarities and differences are; 1) the meaning of death, 2) nature attribute, and 3) revealing truth. The feelings shown in the both literary works are basically about the reality of life. The beauty, the truth, the life, and the death are enclosed into the social life experienced by the people in the world. Keywords: comparative literature; feeling; values of literary works

Abstract

The objective in the research are to find out whether teaching vocabulary through pictures can improve the students’ vocabulary comprehension, and are the students’ interest in learning vocabulary through pictures at SMP Negeri 3 Merauke and the subject in this research was eight grade students B and C in SMP Negeri 3 Merauke. The research method using divided into quasi-experimental research. This sample of the research consisted of 40 students divided into two groups namely: 20 students to experimental group and 20 students to control group and conclude the data using two instruments; the vocabulary test for the students’ vocabulary achievement was analyzed used SPSS and the questionnaire was used to see students' interest in English learning vocabulary. To the result indicated that the through pictures media improves the vocabulary of the eight grade students in SMP Negeri 3 Merauke. It was proven by the mean score of posttest of experimental group which higher than the mean score of control group in vocabulary test (81.5>51.7) and the difference was statistically significant based on the result of the t-test of posttest indicated the probability value is smaller than alpha value (0.00<0.05). It means that, the use of pictures media was more effective to improving students vocabulary comprehension of the eight grade Students of SMP Negeri 3 Merauke than without using pictures media and the students also more interested in learning English vocabulary by using picture media than without using pictures media. As indicated by the results score of the questionnaire, namely there were twelve students or 60% to score are the strongly interested classification and eight students or 40% are the interested classifications. It means that, most of the students were interested in English learning vocabulary through pictures media in learning process. Keywords: improving; vocabulary; comprehension; pictures

Abstract

Based on the problems experienced by SMKS YPK Merauke, namely the low ability and interest in reading and writing of students and the existence of friendship patterns based on ethnicity and class so that conflicts between friends often occur, the Literature Workshop program to Strengthen Cultural and Citizenship Literacy was held. Literature workshops are a solution to the problem of the low ability and interest in reading and writing of students, while Cultural and Citizenship Literacy are to overcome problems where there are still classifications and disputes between students. Methods in the implementation of Literature Workshop are; 1) Open Workshop; the introduction stage of the Literary Workshop Program and the Cultural and Citizenship Literacy Movement, 2) Disassembling; the practice stage of reading and writing literary works with cultural themes, and 3) Patchy; the mentoring stage through consultation on student work and evaluation of Program Sustainability. The result of this activity; 1) Increasing students' understanding of the world of literature and cultural literacy and citizenship as measured through tests at the end of Open Workshop activities, 2) Increasing students' competence in reading and writing as measured through practice making short stories with the theme of Papuan folklore, and 3) Increasing social skills and mutual respect for cultural differences as measured by assignments using the case study method, 4) Drafts of folklore collection by students, 5) Drafts of Cultural and Citizenship literacy programs by teachers.

Abstract

This research examines feminism as fought by women. Feminism is a movement that fights for equality between men and women. In this case, women want equal rights and opportunities in every aspect that men have. This research focuses on the types of feminism and women’s rights that fought by women in France in the 18th century. This research is a qualitative research and the method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. In addition, the theories used in this research have two theories. The first theory was the theory of feminism proposed by Rosemarie Tong to analyze the types of feminism found in Colette movie script. The second theory is the theory of women’s rights proposed by Sophie Mousset to analyze the rights of women fought by the main character in the Colette movie. The results of this research indicate that there are several types of feminism experienced by the main character. There are five types of feminism, they are Liberal feminism, Radical feminism, Anarchist feminism, Marxist feminism and Socialist Feminism. Moreover, there are women’s rights that are found in this movie. There are four women’s rights, they are Right to work, Freedom from slavery, Right to own property, and Right to own literary and artistic production.

Abstract

This research examines psychology which is motivation of the main character in the short story. Motivation is a state inside us that demands a change, whether in ourselves or in our surroundings. Moreover, motivation is a person's desire to achieve the needs that they want. This research focuses on the types of motivation and the hierarchy needs that the main character try to achieve in the short story.This research is a qualitative research and the method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. In addition, the theories used in this research have two theories. The first theory was the theory of motivation proposed by Ryan and Decy to analyze the types of motivation found in To Build a Fire short story. The second theory is the theory of hierarchy needs proposed by Abraham Maslow to analyze the needs that the main character try to achieve.The results of this research indicate that there are two types of motivation which consist of intrinsic motivation, they are five data of behavior and five data of passion. In addition, they are extrinsic motivation which are three data of status and two data of rewards. Meanwhile, there are five types of hierarchy needs which consist of three data of psychological needs, four data of safety needs, three data of love and belongingness needs, two data of self-esteem needs and three data of cognitive needs.
