Literacy has become a crucial position in education, especially in Indonesia. It is used as one of ways to develop education through developing the culture of reading, writing, and counting. The study aims to find out benefits and challenges of implementing storytelling in teaching literacy. The study employed a qualitative descriptive research design. The data were obtained from students’ interview and observation. The findings found some benefits in implementing teaching program which include using two languages as the medium of interaction, providing suitable learning materials and various media, using of dramatization to show a character’s expression, asking moral value of the story as an evaluation instrument, developing students’ literacy ability, arousing students’ imagination, enriching students’ vocabulary, and developing students’ reading awareness and interest. Meanwhile, some challenges found in implementing teaching program are students’ proficiency and length of texts. Based on those findings, it is suggested to provide more times to truly explore students’ literacy ability and their preference in story.

This study aims at examining whether students’ reading comprehension can be improved by using Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) technique. This research used pre experimental design with one group pretest and post-test. The sample of this research was 34 students of tenth grade of SMK Pasundan 1 Cimahi in academic year 2017/2018. The instrument of this research was test which consist of multiple choice question. The data of this research was collected by giving reading comprehension test to students. The collected data of this research was analyzed using SPSS program. Then, the result of data analysis showed that mean of pretest 55.59 and after the implementation of Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) technique the mean of posttest became 67.79. It shows that there are significant differences between pretest and posttest. Based on the data analysis, the null hypothesis was rejected. In other words, teaching reading comprehension using Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) technique had significance improvement on students’ reading comprehension. The implementation of Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) technique in teaching reading comprehension was able to resolve those difficulties since it required the students to share, discuss, and unite their thought or problem on comprehending the content of the text with other members of their group.

The purposes of this research is to investigate the achievement and improvement of students’ English-speaking ability at the eleventh-grade students of SMK 4 LPPM RI Padalarang. The researcher used quasi-experimental research design in this research. The instruments are tests. The tests were done twice to the experimental class and the control class. They are pre-test and post-test. The data were calculated using Microsoft Office Excel 2019 and IBM SPSS 25. There are 30 students in each class. The total of the population is 60 students. The results of the research showed that from the implementation of Cooperative Script Method at the eleventh-grade students of SMK 4 LPPM RI Padalarang, the students’ English-speaking ability are improved significantly. It can be seen from the post-test mean score achievement. It can be concluded that the students’ English-speaking ability improvement who learned using Cooperative Script Method are better than students who learned using Problem-Based Learning. The implementation of Cooperative Script Method is effective in teaching speaking.

This research purpose is to analyse the capability of students’ speaking improvement through Snowball Throwing Technique. The research method applied in this research is quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design. This research had been conducted at SMP Wiyata Bakti Cimahi. The sample for this research took 30 students from each class, that is class 8C selected become the experiment class that used Snowball Throwing Technique and class 8A selected become the control class that used the Scientific Approach. The research result concluded that: (1) the students’ speaking capability through Snowball Throwing Technique is better than Scientific Approach and (2) the students’ speaking capability improvement through Snowball Throwing Technique is better than Scientific Approach.Keywords: Speaking, Snowball Throwing Technique, Scientific Approach, Quasi-experiment

Learning English during this time globalization is exceptionally critical. People aspire to speak fluent in English. This proves that the presence of English during this time globalization is exceptionally imperative and considering that English is an international language. However, many Indonesians people cannot master vocabularies well, due to lack of understanding when studying in the class. The population of students were 130 within the eighth grade, but researcher using 1 class, there are 35 students within the class for this study. Thereby, the aims of this research is to find the vocabulary improvement of Total Physical Response (TPR). The researcher used qualitative method. Interview and test used as instrument of this research.The result showed that students more understand and truly remember of recent vocabularies when using Total Physical response (TPR) as a way. Understanding the text is one of the objectives of English study. Before understanding the complex sentence the basic skill that student need to master is to understand the phrases of each sentence. This article objectives are to give more understanding about noun phrases in magazine article to help student easy to understand the basic of English especially phrase. The reason writer choose noun phrase is the most commonly used phrase in the sentence is the noun phrase and the writer want to make the reader familiar with noun phrase. This article will analyze the magazine article with 22 sentences and also contains 66 noun phrases in it. Which the writer will determine the modifier every noun phrase in it. This research is aimed to know about what larger patterns are used in the report text and what is the role of larger patterns used for the reader. This pattern, in which a general description is followed by more detailed descriptions with specific information, These patterns are describe something in general at the beginning and then explain in more detail about the information. General-specific patterns can be found in the encyclopedia and other reference texts, when someone will explain an event, surely they will tell their history widely in advance, information about it certainly comes from a reliable source so that the storyline can still be given to the public, general-specific is a way to explain a storyline from the beginning to the point. The Writer suggests the further researcher to use other more interesting sources to find more the larger patterns and to know about the role of the patterns. As a foreign language in Indonesia, English is still difficult subject for majority of the Indonesian students, even though it has been taught in junior high school, senior high school, English course, and another education institution. Therefore, many English learning-teaching activities in Indonesia use code-switching. Code-switching is language change (switch) in communication, from one language to another, code-switching here means Indonesian to English or English to Indonesian. This research examined the students’ perception towards code-switching use in English Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. This research applied survey research method, and the instruments were consisted of questionnaire and interview session. Thirty students were involved in filling questionnaire and nine students were involved in both questionnaire and interview. The result showed that (1) majority of students agree on code-switching use in learning teaching activity (2) they perceive code-switching helps them in improving their listening skills (3) they give more respect to teachers who use code-switching when they teach (4) they consider code-switching use increases their chance in passing examination and (5) they feel more comfort and more confident when they study English.

In teaching and learning process, teachers without preparation and materials in teaching like chefs without cooking ingredients. It can be assumed that preparing the activity and materials is important for the teachers before they deliver the lesson. On the point of that, this research is aimed at evaluating a coursebook in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) subject. It investigates students’ responses towards ESP coursebook written by Hutchinson and Waters (1987) entitled English for Specific Purposes. The evaluation format used in this research is adopted from Al-Sowat (2012). Limitation of this research is on choosing only one area as the focus of evaluation. There are activities and tasks. The participants involved in this research were university students. The data were collected by distributing questionnaire to the participants using google form. Descriptive qualitative was used to analyze and present the data. The results showed that the coursebook has strength. Students do not feel bored, also those activities can make students more creative and active in the classroom. This research suggests further research to develop an appropriate coursebook for English for Specific Purposes subject.
