Abstract

Changes in coastal land use can affect the condition of coastal ecosystems, including mangrove ecosystems which are typical vegetation in coastal areas. Mangrove ecosystems are only left in certain highly protected areas or planted on the edge of ponds bordering beaches or rivers to prevent abrasion. The thinning of mangrove forests in the coastal area of Marunda, North Jakarta makes it easy for sea water to enter residential areas. The reduction in mangrove land in the coastal area of North Jakarta has an impact on decreasing the environmental quality of the coastal area. This environmental community service activity aims to encourage awareness of the coastal environment which must be pursued by all levels of society, including the academic community, especially students and lecturers. The method for implementing this activity is collaboration and participation of local communities that the community around Marunda is involved in environmental conservation activities through the introduction of mangrove planting. Their introduction to the environment and its preservation can start from efforts to repair environmental damage itself. This service activity is an example of real implementation to overcome this problem. As a result of this activity, the community can introduce the types of mangrove plants as well as provide public learning for each generation regarding involvement in preserving the coastal environment for each future generation to take a role in protecting the environment and saving generations from ecological disasters in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of mining activities on the environment and evaluate the effectiveness of revegetation processes in restoring ecosystem balance in Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau Province. Mining activities carried out by PT. Pertamina Hulu Rokan have caused deforestation due to tree cutting for land clearing, contributing to habitat disruption for flora and fauna, declining water quality, and increasing global warming. The research method includes literature review, field observations, and interviews with relevant stakeholders. The revegetation process consists of three main stages: land preparation, planting implementation, and maintenance. Additionally, plant species used in revegetation are selected based on suitable characteristics such as resistance to sunlight exposure, fast growth with low costs, high litter production that decomposes easily, strong root systems, and the ability to form symbiotic relationships with specific microbes. The results indicate that revegetation using a combination of ground cover plants, primary plants, and companion plants can improve post-mining environmental conditions, increase oxygen availability, and aid in global warming prevention. Thus, revegetation serves as an effective strategy in post-mining ecosystem restoration efforts.   Keywords: Environment, Post-Mining, Global Warming, Revegetation, Plants

Abstract

Bandung Regency in 2023 built a TPST (Integrated Waste Management Site) with a capacity of 75 tons/day with the mechanical method "One Day Process" and a capacity of 20 tons/day with the biological method "Biodrying". The fact is that the capacity was not realized according to plan. This study is to evaluate the differences between the Biodrying and One Day One Process methods in producing RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) and to compile a dynamic model of waste management through sustainable RDF. This study was conducted using a dynamic system using Powersim software with simulations from 2023 to 2024. Existing management was modeled and analyzed with a dynamic system. The results of the study showed that the biodrying method was superior to the capacity and quality of RDF products and had operational cost savings for electricity needs. The modeling results showed that the performance of waste management from 2023 to 2034 was only 10.35 tons/day for the one day one process method and 9.8 tons/day for the biodrying method, as a result, unmanaged waste increased every year. To maximize capacity, the Bandung Regency regional government needs to intervene with policy steps that support the sustainability of TPST.

Abstract

The study aims to describe how Gen Z students at Dharmawangsa University especially those in the communications science program, manage interpersonal conflicts based on their personal experiences. This study uses a phenomenological paradigm through their experiences in managing project assignments in 3 months and divided into several groups. During 3 months of working on the project, several groups of students found various problems that then required them to carry out conflict management according to the personal characteristics of each member in each group. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive research design with the Miles and Huberman analysist techniques, including data reduction, data display and conclusions. Meanwhile, data collection techniques are carried out in 3 stages, observation, interview, and documentation. The result shows that Gen Z is exemplified by two interpersonal conflict management strategies: avoiding conflict and compromising, both of which involve a variety of techniques. Making concessions involves being transparent with all parties involved, having in-depth conversations, negotiating, determining the root cause of the disagreement, and refraining from blaming the other party. For Gen Z, this is considered a positive self-concept. Meanwhile, giving in, doing what others ask, and acting as if you are unaware of the problem are ways to avoid interpersonal conflict. This demonstrates a loose and uncaring mindset, which are two negative self-concept characteristics. Thus, the results of this study will increase understanding, knowledge, or concepts regarding the characteristics of Gen Z in interpersonal conflict management.

Abstract

Air pollution in urban areas is a serious problem, especially in locations with heavy traffic and incomplete combustion activities. This study aims to analyse air quality, specifically the concentration of Carbon Monoxide (CO), on Jalan Pusat Kota Tomohon and to identify the perception of the public and satay vendors regarding the health problems they may experience. This descriptive study uses direct measurement methods at three strategic locations and the distribution of questionnaires to respondents. The results show that the average CO level on Jalan Pusat Kota Tomohon is 2233µg/Nm3, which generally, at most points and at certain times, still meets the air quality standards based on Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021. The highest CO level reached 2634µg/Nm3 at Location 1 in front of Anugerah Restaurant in the late afternoon to evening, which has high traffic density and charcoal burning activities. Meanwhile, from interviews with several satay vendors, information was obtained that they experience health complaints such as coughing, sore throat, shortness of breath, and chest pain. These complaints are strongly suspected to be related to exposure to charcoal burning smoke and vehicle emissions that occur regularly. This study concludes that although the CO concentration is generally still below the threshold, chronic exposure still has the potential to cause health problems for vulnerable populations such as satay vendors.
