Abstract

Background: Tooth loss is condition in which a tooth falls out of the socket or out of place. Missing teeth that aren't replaced immediately can interfere with mastication, and Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorder. Using dentures is one of the right ways to deal with missing teeth, but not everyone wants to replace missing teeth with dentures. Low use of dentures is influenced by level of knowledge and motivation of individuals in meeting denture needs. Several factors that influence level of knowledge and motivation are age, gender, education level, occupation, and income. Purpose: To determine level of knowledge and motivation toward use of dentures by people who have lost their teeth in Pusaka Rakyat Village, Tarumajaya District, Bekasi Regency. Method: Quantitative descriptive with sample 100 people, has criteria including people in Pusaka Rakyat Village who are 20 years old, have lost at least one tooth element, and never used dentures. Data collection was carried out in February-April 2021 by filling questionnaires by respondents. Result: Chi-Square test with significance p-value<0.05 found significant relationship between age and level of knowledge and occupation with motivation to use dentures. Conclusion: Age and occupation are very influential on a person's motivation and motivation is very influential on a person's income, so they will be more aware about dentures.

Abstract

Gigi tiruan merupakan sebagai penganti daerah yang kehilangan gigi, Kehilangan gigi dapat menyebabkan berkurangnya kemampuan untuk melakukan aktivitas pengunyahan,kelainan berbicara,estetik berkurang, bergesernya gigi dan ganguan pada sendi. Perawatan dengan pemakaian gigi tiruan sebagai pengganti daerah yang kehilangan gigi sangat penting, akan tetapi tidak semua orang yang kehilangan gigi memakai gigi tiruan. Pengetahuan merupakan salah satu faktor penyebab seseorang dalam melakukan sesuatu tindakan. untuk mengetahui hubungan tingkat pengetahuan masyarakat dengan kehilangan gigi dan pemakaian gigi tiruan di Kelurahan Pengasinan Sawangan Kota Depok. ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan subjek penelitian sebanyak 100 responden yang merupakan perwakilan dari populasi 28.569 jiwa. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan pembagian kuisioner kepada subyek penelitian yang telah diberi informed consent. Hasil uji stastistik menunjukan adanya hubungan yang bermakna antara tingkat pendidikan ( P value = 0,000 ), sumber informasi ( P value = 0,000 ) dengan pengetahuan tentang gigi yang hilang terhadap pemakaian gigi tiruan di kelurahan Pengasinan Kecamatan Sawangan Kota Depok.

Abstract

Background of the problem: Adolescents with thalassemia often experience dental health problems due to disease complications and treatment. Prevention can be achieved by improving nutritional status and public education about thalassemia. The program activities that can be a solution to these problems are through education. Objectives: This service aims to improve dental health, understanding of the use of dentures, and nutritional status among adolescents with Beta Thalassemia Major in DKI Jakarta. Methods: The methods used in this activity include socialization and counseling on dental health and thalassemia disease, which were attended by 40 adolescents from the Indonesian Thalassemia Foundation in DKI Jakarta. The stages of the activity include the distribution of activity information, the completion of a pre-test questionnaire, presentation of the material, examination, and evaluation session. Results: The post-test results of the community service activity revealed that 57.5% of participants fell into the high knowledge category, 37.5% into the moderate category, and 5.0% into the low category. Conclusion: This indicates that after this activity, there was an increase in understanding regarding efforts to improve nutritional health, the use of dentures, and the nutritional status of adolescents with beta thalassemia. Recommendations or follow-up: The intervention in the form of socialization and counseling has successfully increased the knowledge of nutritional health, dentures, and the nutritional status of adolescents with beta-thalassemia.
