Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: The spread of malaria caused by Anopheles mosquitoes is a significant public health problem in many regions, including Makassar City. As malaria cases increase, it is important to understand the factors that influence Anopheles larval populations, especially in potential breeding habitats, such as ground pools. Ground pools are puddles of water that can serve as breeding grounds for mosquito larvae. Method: This research is an exploratory study that aims to analyze the dynamics of Anopheles sp larval ground pools in Makassar City in 2024. The method used was observational with a Geographic Information System (GIS) approach to visualize and analyze larval distribution. Results: The results showed that Anopheles larvae were successfully found in three sub-districts in Makassar City, namely Tamalate, Manggala, and Panakukang sub-districts. Ground pools found to be positive for Anopheles larvae were generally in locations with open light conditions exposed to direct sunlight. This suggests that environmental factors, such as lighting, play an important role in larval presence. The An. subpictus species had the highest larval density found in pond-type ground pools. This study also produced a spatial map showing the distribution of Anopheles larvae in different ground pool locations in Makassar City, providing a clear picture of the distribution of larvae in the area. Conclusion: This study successfully identified and analyzed the presence of Anopheles larvae in Makassar City, focusing on environmental characteristics that affect larval populations. Anopheles larvae were found in several sub-districts, indicating that Makassar City has the potential as a habitat for malaria vector mosquitoes. Environmental conditions, such as lighting, had a significant effect on larval density.

Abstract

Water is the fundamental basis for all biological and human activities. Water is believed to be a natural resource that will never run out and will always be available at all times. Nonetheless, the availability of water as a natural resource is restrained due to its relatively constant hydrological cycle; thus making it limited in supply. The methods used during the activity were lectures and discussions. At the beginning of the activity, the team conducted counseling related to well water sanitation and its impact and how to overcome it. The method of this counseling stage is carried out through 5 stages, namely: socialization stage, implementation stage. This activity includes 3 sessions, among others: First stage: Pre test, which is given through a questionnaire, through lecture, question and answer, and discussion methods Post test and assessing the results of the post test, technology application stage, monitoring and evaluation stage, program sustainability stage. The results of the service activities showed that the educational program on access to clean water sanitation and the effects of borehole water for health succeeded in significantly increasing the knowledge of the participants. The average score increased from 19.22 in the pre-test to 21.18 in the post-test, with a p-value of 0.001 which shows a significant difference. This result confirms the effectiveness of the clean water sanitation education program.

Abstract

According to 2018 International Labour Organization (ILO) data, globally, there are 60,000 fatal accidents per year. Approximately 1 in 6 reported fatal accidents occur in the construction sector. The number of workplace accidents in Indonesia is relatively high. This is due to the still weak awareness of workers. This study aimed to determine factors related to compliance in the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) among workshop workers at PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas New Makassar Terminal 2. This type of research uses quantitative methods with a cross-sectional study design. The sampling technique used was total sampling with a total of 40 respondents. Data were obtained using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test at a 95% confidence level (alpha = 0.05) and from the results of the study obtained that the variables related to compliance in the use of PPE are attitudes (p-value = 0.040) and availability of PPE (p-value = 0.039) while those that are not related are Education (p-value = 0.392), knowledge (p-value = 1.000) and supervision (p-value = 0.369). It can be concluded that there is no relationship between Education, compliance, and supervision, and there is a relationship between attitudes and availability of PPE with compliance in the use of personal protective equipment. The study's findings suggest that PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas New Makassar Terminal 2 should implement a stricter K3 system and routinely provide guidance in the proper use of PPE, which could significantly improve workplace safety.
