Abstract

This research examines the underlying ideology(s) of a TV program called ‘Film Television’ (FTV). This TV program is on during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Specifically, using framing analysis and gender perspective approach as a methodology, this research analyses the ways in which these ideologies developed in FTV. Six prime samples of FTV were chosen, namely Laki-laki Buaya Darat, Cowok Gue IQ-nya Ancur Banget, Cowok Gue Pendek Bener, Pacar honorer, Ganteng-ganteng Medit, Pacar Gue Brondong. The findings reveal a thrust of twin-contrarian thrust of messaging. There are two embedded ideologies underlying the FTV. First, the FTV production house carries a patriarchal ideology by raising themes that discriminate against women through stereotypes against women that appear in the story. Second, the FTV production house carries the ideology of feminism, with themes that position women as super-ordinates. Women occupy a higher social class than men. This finding of twin-contrarian ideological thrust offers an important contribution to the gender theoretical vacuum of Indonesian TV as an example of Asian teen romanticism in national TV programming during a global crisis.  It has conceptual implication on the repertoire of social science knowledge, especially sociology particularly research on womens body and beauty, sociology of gender and media, and sociology of family.

Abstract

Climate change and other environmental problems have become a global concern. Intrinsically, this creates higher education institutions such as Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) taking part in various green campus measurements to address this problem. This study analyzes the factors of how higher education institutions such as UMY and USM initiate green campuses and sustainable universities. It assumes these two universities align with the implementation of green campus initiation despite their different university status. This research is qualitative research using a comparative study between UMY and USM. This research data uses interviews from the university website, especially university leaders and all related stakeholders, and secondary data such as relevant documents and articles related to this study. Therefore, in this study, the authors use the framework theory of planned behavior, which systematically analyzes the factors that influence the behavior of stakeholders, especially university leaders, by looking at three factors: environmental motive and concern, educational university programs, and promotional activities. By employing planned behavior analysis, it was found that both universities have initiated to become green campuses by implementing various programs and collaborating with stakeholders such as Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), communities, and other academic communities. In addition, participating in green campus measurements demonstrates the role of UMY and USM in contributing to good university governance. It reflects their role as universities in mitigating the impact of climate change caused by using non-environmentally friendly energy and waste. All in all, the two universities, UMY and USM, have vital initiatives in the practice of sustainable university.

Abstract

This study endeavors to examine the execution of adat obligation fulfillment within the Baduy adat society, specifically in cases involving the murder and rape of Baduy girls in 2019. The primary focus is on scrutinizing how the Baduy adat institution has undertaken the fulfillment of adat obligations in these cases and its alignment with the provisions outlined in the New Criminal Code. Employing a normative-sociological research methodology, both secondary and primary data were utilized, including a comprehensive literature review and field studies conducted through interviews with traditional leaders in Baduy. The imperative nature of this research lies in its investigation into the applicability of positive law within the Baduy adat area, coupled with the implementation of adat obligations and the restoration of cosmic balance within Baduy society following the repercussions of crimes within the Baduy adat jurisdiction. The distinctive contribution of this research lies in its exploration of the fulfillment of adat obligations applicable in Baduy, particularly in cases involving the murder and rape of Baduy girls, and its correlation with the regulations of the New Criminal Code. The research findings underscore that perpetrators of the mentioned crimes are subject to penalties under both positive criminal law (imprisonment) and Baduy's adat law, where an adat obligation mandates them to marry the victim. Notably, the implementation of sanctions from both state and adat law occurs concurrently, despite originating from distinct institutional frameworks. In conclusion, the fulfillment of adat obligations, as orchestrated by Baduy's adat law, aligns with the regulations in the New Criminal Code. However, the execution of adat obligations in accordance with the New Criminal Code necessitates a court decision. Consequently, the role of the adat institution assumes critical importance concerning its relevance and authority in sanctioning within the implementation of adat obligations.

Abstract

This article discusses the role of stakeholders from the descendants of Kings, who collaborated with the government and private sectors in managing of the pilgrimage tourism heritage site of the tomb of the Kings of Asta Tinggi, in Sumenep district. The purpose of this study was to investigate the various factors that influence stakeholder collaborations in the management of sustainable pilgrimage tourism and which stakeholder groups have a sustained traditional of authority. This qualitative research uses a case study approach and data collection through in-depth unstructured interviews and observations. This study seeks to take a new perspective in the analysis of the collaborative governance theory in the face of the social environment factor. The study results show that stakeholders, facilitative leadership, and enabling environmental factors become resources and strengths in the success of collaborative governance even though the role of private and government sectors are still limited. The findings reveal that stakeholders from the community, namely the traditional group as a companion of pilgrims, have an important role in collaboration, because they can only be replaced by the descendants, while the collaborative initiation comes from the community. We suggest the importance of government initiation to expand collaboration networks and facilitate the formation of the institutional administrator of Asta Tinggi site, through reconciliation which represents two descendants of Kings. The findings of this study are expected to enrich the theory of collaborative governance.

Abstract

This paper examines how legal structures in Saudi Arabia have changed to diversify the economy. In this regard, the focus is on developing the tourism sector through the Red Sea Project. Traditionally, the Saudi economy was largely dependent on oil exports, thus prone to volatile markets and inadequate crude oil reserves. However, the instability in the global oil market has posed a threat to the economy, which led the government to kickstart the Saudi Vision 2030 initiative—a much-sought plan that mainly consists of reforms aimed at revitalizing sectors outside of oil. This research analyses the problem using the Law and Economics theory, and it seeks to investigate how investment laws and environmental laws are used to establish environmentally friendly investment avenues. The findings show that, although Saudi Arabia’s tourism industry has not been able to bring in revenue as oil does, in the long term, the economy's growth under the legal changes brought by Saudi Vision 2030 will bear fruit. Their significance lies in emphasizing the importance of properly developed legal means of firm institutional framework for successfully implementing economic resource diversification in non-renewable resource-rich economies. It also shows how such legal reforms could be applied to pursue economic change in countries with resource economies and could serve as a model for such economies that experience similar problems.

Abstract

This article is based on a research with a three-prong objectives. The first is to examine the connection between the attitudes of the social workers and their work execution quantified using PMT. The second is to investigate the connection between the performance measurement with the quality of the social services. The third is to analyze the link between social workers’ attitudes and the quality of social services. The essence is to explain the interconnection between the quantifiable measurements and the more subjective or qualitative attitudes vis-à-vis the quality of the social services rendered. The methodology employed is sequential explanatory research, whereby the quantitative data of 14 social workers from Sunshine Social Work Service Centre in Dezhou City, China will be explained by the qualitative deliberations. The results show that the first hypothesis that social workers oppose performance evaluation (PMT) is not supported while performance evaluation results directly impact social service project quality though it is not as significant as the attitude of social workers to achieve quality of social services. This suggests that the scientific rationality of current PMTs still requires improvement while positive attitudes of social workers towards performance evaluation contribute to achieving good outcomes in social service projects.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah, one of Indonesia’s largest Islamic organizations, is renowned for its contributions to religion, education, healthcare, social welfare, and the economy. Through its business entities, Muhammadiyah offers products and services grounded in Islamic values, catering to both its members and the broader public. In East Java’s increasingly competitive market, understanding the factors that shape consumer trust in Muhammadiyah’s products is essential. This study examines the impact of brand awareness, service quality, promotions, location, satisfaction, and pricing on consumer trust, and how trust, in turn, influences purchasing decisions. Using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS), the results indicate that service quality, brand awareness, and location significantly affect consumer trust, with service quality emerging as the most influential factor. Notably, location exerts a negative effect, suggesting the presence of localized consumer perceptions. Consumer trust is found to significantly mediate purchasing decisions. The model demonstrates solid explanatory power, with R² values of 0.543 for trust and 0.293 for purchasing decisions, and a Goodness of Fit (GoF) score of 0.562. These findings imply that Muhammadiyah should prioritize enhancing service quality, bolstering brand awareness, and reevaluating its location strategies to strengthen consumer relationships and maintain market competitiveness.
