Abstract

This study explores the understanding of halal products among Indonesian Muslim migrant workers (IMMW) in South Korea. Previous studies indicate that knowledge of halal and haram influences consumption behaviour. South Korea, a growing hub for IMMW and the halal industry, offers a unique socio-cultural context. Using a socio-legal approach, this research investigates how cultural and social factors affect IMMW’s understanding and choices regarding halal consumption. Data were gathered through interviews and questionnaires with 104 respondents and analysed descriptively. Findings reveal that IMMW in South Korea has a strong awareness of halal standards, with 100% of respondents prioritising halal status before consumption. However, access to accurate halal information remains limited, indicating a gap in the dissemination of information and legal support. The study recommends collaboration between the Indonesian and South Korean governments to enhance legal protection and improve access to halal education and resources for IMMW. By addressing these issues, both countries can better support the religious and consumer rights of Muslim migrant workers. This article offers insights into the intersection of socio-cultural factors and legal awareness in a minority-Muslim setting and provides policy suggestions to promote fair and inclusive access to halal products.

Abstract

Sexual violence remains a persistent challenge in university environments, despite the implementation of various policies and task forces, including at Universitas Brawijaya. This study investigates the integration of fiqh sexuality in preventing sexual violence on campus. Employing a qualitative case study with a socio-legal approach, data were gathered through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation of the Universitas Brawijaya's PPKS Task Force activities. The findings reveal that while educational efforts are underway, the approach predominantly focuses on legal and psychological aspects, with fiqh sexuality not yet systematically integrated. Crucially, from the perspective of maqāṣid al-syarī'ah, fiqh sexuality offers significant potential for preventing sexual violence through the principles of ḥifẓ al-nafs, ḥifẓ al-nasl, and ḥifẓ al-'aql. Therefore, mainstreaming fiqh sexuality education is essential in university sexual violence prevention strategies.

Abstract

Early marriage is a significant issue in social and health studies, often having profound effects on individuals and communities. This article addresses early marriage by focusing on the interpretation of Hadith concerning the marriage of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to Aisha (RA) and its relevance in a modern context. Employing a qualitative approach and literature review methodology, the study gathers data from Hadith exploration and literature analysis to provide contextual and applicative understanding. The findings underscore the importance of aligning Hadith interpretations with contemporary social conditions and the need for effective strategies to address the psychological, reproductive health, and social impacts of early marriage. Despite the historical Islamic context of early marriage having different foundations, its psychological, reproductive health, and social implications require in-depth consideration. Psychologically, early marriage often leads to stress and emotional disturbances due to adolescent mental immaturity. Reproductively, risks of complications rise due to physical and hormonal immaturity, including bleeding, miscarriage, or other health issues. Socially, the potential for high divorce rates and family instability may disrupt social and emotional well-being. The study concludes that adapting Hadith interpretations to current social contexts and implementing effective approaches to address early marriage issues is essential.
