Abstract

ABSTRACT Community service was carried out in two activities, namely counseling and testing of fish-caller lights in fishing with a fixed lift-net. Community service aim to (1) transfer knowledge in the field of environmentally friendly fishing; (2) product information on LED light technology as a fish-collecting tool; (3) socialization about the use of echo-sounder technology as a tool for detecting the presence of fish which helps to make fishing operations more effective. The activities were carried out in the Mappasaile Village Waters, Pangkajene District, Pangkajene Islands Regency, using the counseling and equipment testing methods. The extension method focuses on effective fishing methods and technology with fishing aids for the effective fishing. Meanwhile the trial activities were carried out by following fishermen in fishing operations. The extension activities were have been carried out well with 32 participants who were generally fixed lift-net fishermen. The counseling was carried out according to plan and the output target was achieved, that the fishermen could understand the use of underwater lights as fishing aids. Fishermen showed high enthusiasm during the discussion session, by asking questions and expressing various problems they faced. This condition shows that the material presented has reached the target and can provide knowledge about the use of underwater lights. Apart from that, the results of underwater LED light testing show that the lights were able to attract and collect various species of fish. However, the number of catches has not been maximized so more in-depth studies were needed. Keywords: Fixed lift-net, counseling, underwater light.

This research was conducted from May to June 2021 in Tellu Siattinge District, Bone Regency. The type of research used is a quantitative approach with a survey method. The sampling technique used is proportional sampling. The data analysis of working time is carried out by calculating the amount of time spent by craftsmen and using tabulated primary data, while the factors that affect the work time use multiple linear analysis and statistical tests. From the results of the study, it was found that the working time of frame makers was 0.63 HKP/day, netting craftsmen were 0.25 HKP/day and bottom net makers were 0.34 HKP/day. The factors of wages, age, education and work experience simultaneously have a significant effect on the working time of fishing gear craftsmen in Tellu Siattinge District. Partially, the wage factor and work experience have a significant effect, while the age and education factors have no significant effect on the workload of fishing gear craftsmen in Tellu Siattinge District.

Abstract

The potential and development of alternative livelihoods for fishermen households in marine conservation areas must be relevant to or refer to the context of contextual technical considerations (locality), and not a deduction or bottom-up policies derivation so that they can grow and develop (facilitating) local fishermen's households in production activities that are complementary to increasing the spirit of the locality, community harmonious with natural resoureces and welfare through the opening of new economic spaces that can be accessed and controlled by the local community themselves. This type of research is qualitative with a case study approach. Data was collected through direct observation and in-depth interviews with some informants. There are 30 fisherman’s household which is used as primary data source informants. Qualitative analysis based on technical variables, namely community interest, availability of local raw materials/natural resources, availability of labor and market opportunities through content analysis from compilation of interview results through snowball technique with reference to triangulation principle. While quantitative data analysis is carried out with business feasibility indicators for new alternative types of livelihoods that can be applied to fishermen households, namely B/C Ratio indicators, Return Of Investment (ROI), and Payback Period (PP). Research result show that based on the analysis of technical variables, the potential alternative livelihoods carried out by fishermen households are seaweed aquaculture, floating net cage aquaculture, processed fishery products, coconut and household scale chicken and duck farming. The B/C ratio value of these businesses is > 1 with very profitable criteria to do.
