Abstract

The purpose of incorporating digital learning materials into vocational school English instruction is to assist students in acquiring specific competencies. Additionally, prepared digital learning materials are intended to assist teachers in developing instructional materials that follow the principles of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in vocational high schools (SMK). The research used the qualitative research and development (R&D) method. The stages of developing this teaching material model are adapted from Thiagarajan, Semmel, and Semmel's 4Ds model (1974), which consists of four stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. As data sources, the participants were two teachers from two different vocational schools with a combined enrolment of 115 students. This research's results are a model for developing digital-based teaching materials (prepared digital learning materials). Furthermore, it was discovered that using the prepared digital learning materials greatly aided teachers in teaching English to achieve specific competencies. From the students' perspective, they admitted that it was also exciting because they perceived learning as distinct from traditional   learning materials due to digital materials usage.

Abstract

English teacher’s personality competency in improving students’ English language skills at Unggul Cut Nyak Dhien High School, Langsa City, is quite good. However, although the teacher’s personality is good, namely attitude and learning methods, it still needs to be improved in terms of using innovative learning media according to current developments because the teacher’s attitude and personality greatly influence students’ interest in learning. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques use observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis uses Miles and Huberman’s theory through data reduction, data presentation, and data conclusions. The research results found that the personality competence of English teachers is very good, thereby increasing students’ competence in English; this can be seen through teacher discipline, good communication with students, fellow teachers, and the surrounding environment, and carrying out their duties as teachers well. The hope is that the results of this research can be used as a reading reference or increase knowledge.

Abstract

This research aimed to examine the impact of the flipped classroom model on the activities and learning achievement of nursing students in Aceh, with a focus on speaking skills. The study employed classroom action research and was conducted over three months during the odd semester of 2024/2025, involving one first-grade class consisting of 32 students. The research was carried out in two cycles, utilizing pre-test and post-test evaluations to measure student learning outcomes. Additionally, two observers monitored classroom activities and provided reflections for improvement. The results showed a significant improvement in students' speaking skills. The average pre-test score was 55, which increased to 64 after Cycle I and further to 80 after Cycle II. Observations indicated that students became more active and engaged during the learning process, reflecting the effective implementation of the flipped classroom model. These findings suggest that the flipped classroom design successfully enhanced students' speaking abilities, as evidenced by the consistent improvement in their scores across cycles.

Abstract

Basic literacy including reading is an important competency to build other competencies. However, the reading literacy of Indonesian students is still low, both reports of Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM). Therefore, this community service program aimed at increasing students' motivation in reading. The program used a mixed method with techniques of lecturing-discussion and demonstration-practice. It was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Idi Rayeuk, East Aceh. The participants were high school students of class XII totaling 52 people consisting of 22 male and 30 female. This activity was carried out in five sessions: (1) pre-training questionnaire; (2) seminar on reading and critical thinking; (3) workshop on using simple AI applications for reading; (4) discussion; and (5) post-training questionnaire. The result showed a positive change in the attitude of the trainees towards reading literacy and critical thinking. It was shown by the difference in the results of the students’ views between the pre-training and post-training. Students stated that they were neutral towards reading habits, especially reading in English before the briefing. After the briefing, students experienced an improvement in their perception and became more confident that they should like reading and also reading in English in the future. In addition, students were enthusiastic in training on simple AI applications for reading. The implication indicates that teachers should motivate students to read more, both in Indonesian and English.

Abstract

In increasingly multicultural English Language Teaching (ELT) settings, ethical concerns are not merely pedagogical but also emotional and interpersonal. The study here explores the ethical challenges for undergraduate ELT learners and looks at how Social Emotional Learning (SEL) abilities play a role in overcoming these challenges. Taking the qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, reflective journals, and observations of classrooms of 20 students of English Language Education Study Program Universitas Samudra. On the basis of thematic analysis, three broad categories of ethical issues academic integrity, group conflict, and cultural tensions were analysed through the framework of SEL including self-awareness, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Results indicate that students possessing higher SEL abilities resolved moral dilemmas in more positive manners, while students without such abilities tended to use avoidance or feel emotional distress. The study highlights an urgent need to integrate SEL values into ELT instruction to create ethical consciousness and emotional resilience in students. Implications are reform in teacher preparation, course redesign, and ongoing cross cultural examination of ethics and emotional development in language learning contexts.

Abstract

This study examines Laut Bercerita (2017) by Leila S. Chudori through the lens of posthuman hybridity, focusing on the intertwined roles of digital technology, ecological environment, and spectral agency in shaping identity. Amidst the global digital era and ecological crisis, traditional anthropocentric views of human identity are challenged by fluid, relational, and distributed constructions involving human and non-human actors. Utilizing interdisciplinary theoretical frameworks including Braidotti’s posthumanism, Hayles’ digital cognition, Alaimo’s material ecocriticism, and Derrida’s hauntology, this study employs qualitative textual analysis to reveal how the novel’s characters negotiate identity across three interconnected dimensions: digital archives as extensions of memory and consciousness; the sea as an active ecological agent influencing subjectivity; and spectral presences of political trauma that haunt and shape contemporary identities. The findings demonstrate that Laut Bercerita offers a critical intervention in Indonesian post-Reformasi literature by portraying identity as hybrid and emergent from dynamic relations between technology, environment, and history. This article contributes to contemporary Indonesian literary studies by foregrounding posthuman perspectives that move beyond anthropocentrism and emphasize inclusivity in understanding subjectivity in the digital-ecological age.
