Abstract

The teachers' knowledge of specific content has a positive relationship with the students' mathematics achievement. Mathematics teachers must have an appropriate level to ensure mathematics learning effectively. The quadrilateral is one of the essential contents in geometry.  However, many teachers did not successfully deliver and teach this content in classroom instruction. Therefore, this qualitative study explores the specialized content knowledge of lower secondary teachers in defining and classifying quadrilaterals. Four teachers, two male and two female teachers, were recruited to become participants in this work. All participants have similar teaching experience and do not hold an educator certificate. A test and semi-structured interviews were assigned to obtain specialized content knowledge of the teachers on quadrilaterals. The interview data were analyzed in three stages: data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that only one teacher understands hierarchically in defining and classifying quadrilaterals, two teachers are at the partial prototype level because they cannot see the hierarchical relationship between the quadrilaterals, and another teacher is at the prototype understanding level because it relies on the prototype of quadrilaterals' shape. These findings suggest that lower secondary teachers' special content knowledge of quadrilateral needs to be strengthened through workshops and training professional development.

Abstract

The demands of high school education are not only increasingly complex and difficult subject content, students are also required to be able to think critically and reason in solving everyday problems. This mathematical ability is known as mathematical literacy proficiency. This is where the teacher's role as a facilitator who provides stimulus in the form of learning strategies, guidance and assistance when students experience learning difficulties is a key factor. For this reason, students as prospective mathematics teachers need to have good mathematical literacy skills and knowledge and skills to guide students to achieve 21st century abilities and skills. This research was conducted to apply a STEM approach in learning so that students can improve the mathematical literacy skills of students majoring in Mathematics Education as prospective teachers and introduce and equip them with knowledge about STEM. The research was carried out using problems related to the relationship between mathematics and digital images in STEM. Data is collected through tests and assessments of student activities that integrate STEM in solving problems. The research results show that digital images have the potential to help students understand mathematical concepts in various fields, especially computer graphics. Students' literacy skills also increased significantly at the significance level α = 0.05. Students' mathematical literacy proficiency level increased from 90% at maximum level 1 to 90% at minimum level 5

Abstract

This research was conducted to obtain lecturer profiles according to student perceptions. The attributes used in this research are discipline, authority, learning methods, material delivery, assignments, material review, remedial, and assessment which will then be analyzed using conjoint analysis. The conjoint analysis process with the help of SPSS 20 produces 16 attribute combinations which will then be distributed to students in the form of a questionnaire for assessment. Based on student assessments, the combination of attribute levels that has the highest preference value is lecturers who are disciplined in arriving on time, authoritative as individual lecturers, using conventional learning methods, delivering material using pure mathematics, lecturers who give assignments after being checked and then return them, carry out reviewing material before the exam, lecturers who carry out remediation, and also lecturers who provide objective assessments. The results of the conjoint analysis show that the attribute that has the highest relative importance value is reviewing the material with the attribute level that has the highest usefulness value, namely the lecturer reviewing the material before the exam. Next, successively based on the importance of the attributes, namely the attributes of discipline, tasks, remedial, authority, assessment, learning methods and delivery of material. Characteristics of lecturers in the Mathematics Education Department that students like are lecturers who, in the learning process, always review the material before taking exams; arrive on time for lectures; when giving assignments it is corrected, graded and then returned to the student; conducting re-exams for students who have not completed them or wish to improve their grades; and of course a lecturer must have authority as a lecturer; then in carrying out the assessment, the lecturer gives an assessment to the student objectively without considering the closeness of the lecturer to the student or other factors that influence the lecturer's assessment of the student; students prefer lecturers who teach without having to use techniques according to the lecturer's professionalism, the important thing is that the material presented can be understood by students; as well as delivering material using pure mathematics which can deepen students' mathematical knowledge

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan alat peraga dengan metode demonstrasi terhadap pemahaman konsep persamaan dan pertidaksamaan linear satu variabel siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen dengan one grup pretest-posttest design yang sampel yaitu kelas VII A yang berjumlah 30 siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik tes dengan instrumen tes pemahaman konsep matematis dan teknik non tes dengan instrumen angket respon terhadap alat peraga dengan metode demonstrasi. Hasil penelitian mengindikasikan bahwa n-gain score berada pada kategori sedang yaitu 0,6206, sedangkan hasil uji hipotesis diperoleh lebih dari yang berarti bahwa ditolak dan diterima. Hasil respon siswa terhadap alat peraga dengan metode demonstrasi menyatakan respon positif sebesar 77,65%. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh penggunaan alat peraga dengan metode demonstrasi terhadap pemahaman konsep matematis siswa materi persamaan dan pertidaksamaan linear satu variabel di kelas VII SMP Negeri 3 Merauke.

Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim of describing the profile of the basic mathematical abilities of grade VIII junior high school students. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative with the subject of class VIII students at one of the State Middle Schools in Merauke, totaling 33 students. The data collection instrument used basic mathematics ability test questions which totaled 20 multiple choice questions. To analyze the data obtained, the steps consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions were used using Miles and Huberman's analysis techniques. The results of the study showed that the basic math abilities of grade VIII students were moderate. With the highest basic mathematical abilities in the elements of numbers and the lowest in elements of geometry
