Abstract

Students are often faced with numerous challenges, which can bring on stress, anxiety, depression or relationship problems with those around them. Because of the foregoing, this study examined the principals’ perception of guidance and counselling in secondary schools. The study population consist of all principals in secondary schools in Kwara State, Nigeria. Non-probability sampling techniques (stratified, purposive and convenience) were employed to select 20 principals to participate in the study. An instrument titled “Interview Guide on Guidance and Counselling Services (IGGCS)” was used to collect relevant data from the principals while secondary data were obtained from the counselling department of the schools. Nvivo software (version 10) was used to analyse the data collected. The findings of the study revealed that principals believe the provision of counselling services had a significant impact on student's academic achievement, even though most of the secondary schools do not have a good counselling unit, qualified counsellors, and counselling facilities. This study recommends that a well-equipped counselling unit should be available in schools. Only certified counsellors should be deployed to offer counselling services to students. Lastly, students should be sensitized and encouraged by the school on the need for them to go for counselling to solve their numerous challenges.

Abstract

Currently there is a gap in perception, use and access to ICT among postgraduate students at private universities. This is caused by factors related to aspects of the individual, such as gender and educational attainment. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze postgraduate students perceived the use of and influence of ICT in their research efforts. The study used a descriptive survey design. The researcher chose 100 postgraduate students at random from each of the faculties at university to complete the survey questionnaire. To find out if the measurement tools were reliable and consistent, a reliability test was done. The results show that ICT utilization among postgraduate students is essential for their research work. However, many students are not perfect in the usage of ICT devices despite their availability in the school and their environment. Therefore, students should be encouraged to use ICT devices in their research activities. The usage of ICT would help the students to be more effective and efficient in their research activities.

Abstract

School-university partnerships and professional learning communities (PLCs) are important approaches to school reform that have the potential to improve teaching and learning and improve student outcomes. School-university partnerships are collaborative relationships between schools and universities that aim to improve teaching and learning outcomes by providing access to resources and expertise and by developing new curricula and instructional materials. This study analyzes the positive impact of partnerships and communities on teaching and learning outcomes but also acknowledges the challenges they face such as time constraints, funding, and cultural differences. The research method uses Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The data collection process is carried out by identifying and evaluating scientific articles that are relevant to the topic. A literature search was conducted through academic databases, such as PubMed, ERIC, and Google Scholar. The data found analyzed to identify patterns, trends, and consistencies in the findings. Drawing on existing literature and case studies of successful partnerships found that these collaborative models have the potential to significantly improve educational outcomes for students while providing meaningful professional development opportunities for teachers. Success factors include building relationships based on mutual respect and trust, ongoing communication and collaboration and structured professional development. It was concluded that implementing partnerships will create a culture for continuous improvement within the school community.

Abstract

This study investigated the effect of teachers’ variables on students’ academic achievement in entrepreneurship education in technical and vocational colleges in Lagos State, Nigeria. Two research questions and two hypotheses were tested at a 0.05 significance level. The ex-post facto research design was used for the study, and the population of the study was 223 students. The study sample was 85 final-year students from vocational and technical colleges in Ikotun and Ikorodu. No instrument was developed in this study. Rather, a letter was used to request data. Data was analysed using mean for the research questions and ANOVA (Analysis of variance) to test the hypotheses.  The collected data was analysed using the mean for the research questions and ANOVA to test the hypotheses. The finding revealed that the teachers’ variables related to sex and certification do not significantly affect student’s academic achievement in entrepreneurship education in technical and vocational colleges. The recommendation was made that the government should recruit competent teachers for technical and vocational college teaching; there should be no consideration in recruiting technical and vocational teachers because the students’ academic achievement is unrelated to teachers' sex and certification.
