Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests
Appearance
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
- Please make sure you really need technical assistance before making a request here. In particular, if the target page is a redirect back to the source page that has only one revision, you can usually move the page normally.
- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - To request a reversion of a recent undiscussed move: Review the the guidelines at WP:RMUM of whether a reversion of an undiscussed move qualifies as uncontroversial and if so, the Requests to revert undiscussed moves subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page. Note that in some cases, clerks, such as administrators or page movers may determine that your request for a reversion does not pass the criteria and may move the request to the contested section or open a formal requested move discussion for potentially controversial moves on your behalf.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
- If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page. A bot will automatically remove contested requests after 72 hours of inactivity.
Technical requests
[edit]Uncontroversial technical requests
[edit]- Marton railway station, Manawatū-Whanganui → Marton railway station, New Zealand (currently a redirect back to Marton railway station, Manawatū-Whanganui) (move · discuss) – There is only one Marton railway station (and only one Marton) in New Zealand and thus the disambiguator should be the country not the region. Traumnovelle (talk) 04:41, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- Fraunhofer Society → Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (currently a redirect back to Fraunhofer Society) (move · discuss) – Fraunhofer uses the German name Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in English (and all other languages) as well, see: https://www.fraunhofer.de/en/about-fraunhofer.html Ed1t0r2k25 (talk) 11:17, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- St John Ambulance (New South Wales) → St John Ambulance New South Wales (currently a redirect back to St John Ambulance (New South Wales)) (move · discuss) – Remove unnecessary brackets around New South Wales to match other Australian St John articles. Tim (Talk) 14:46, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
Requests to revert undiscussed moves
[edit]- Dan Dugan (sound engineer) → Dan Dugan (audio engineer) (currently a redirect back to Dan Dugan (sound engineer)) (move · discuss) – Undo the recent undiscussed move, restore the explicit connection to the topic of audio engineer which denotes a professional electronic design engineer rather than a person who mixes sound. Binksternet (talk) 15:19, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
Contested technical requests
[edit]- Borg El Arab International Airport → Alexandria International Airport (currently a redirect instead to Alexandria Airport) (move · discuss) – The name has officially been changed (SOURCE) Turnopoems 𓋹 ✎ 07:39, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- Contest this as unlikely to be the primary topic for this term. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:05, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- Third Militarism → History of Peru (1930–1939) (currently a redirect back to Third Militarism) (move · discuss) – Moving the page would keep its title consistent with those of other pages of the history of Peru. A move cannot be carried out since the target page already exists as a redirect to the former link. AlejandroFC (talk) 03:22, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- This move should be put to an RM if you ask me. Parenthetical titles are discouraged when a non-parenthetical alternative exists. Traumnovelle (talk) 04:45, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- SL2 (musical group) → SL2 (group) (currently a redirect instead to SL2) (move · discuss) – Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(music)#Musical_individuals_and_groups Kuragehime ଳ⋆.ೃ࿔*:・ 04:46, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- DeVante Swing → DeVanté Swing (currently a redirect back to DeVante Swing) (move · discuss) – There really isn't any reason for it not to have the dialect mark. CheeseyHead (talk) 22:59, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- All reliable sources refer to him as "DeVante", no accent. 162 etc. (talk) 01:33, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- Press Academy of Andhra Pradesh → C. Raghavachary Media Academy of Andhra Pradesh (move · discuss) – Official name change confirmed by government orders and news reports. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dineshakula007 (talk • contribs) 08:06, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- I was unable to locate multiple, reliable sources (that are not simply reporting the same story about the new chairmain), that confirm this name change -- please see WP:OFFICALNAME for more information. I suggest you start a full discussion, click "discuss" above, and present multiple reliable sources referencing the media academy by its new name. TiggerJay (talk) 04:42, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- IP code → IP rating (currently a redirect back to IP code) (move · discuss) – Talk page discussed this ages ago. IP rating is the most common name for this concept. Hukak (talk) 08:26, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- The consensus is from 2010 and it was moved by Ingenuity to the current title in August 2022 by looks of it. That's become the status quo now so probably better off having an RM to decide this matter again. CNC (talk) 12:36, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Hukak to move forward, you can click "discuss", fill in your rationale and then click "publish" ASUKITE 14:28, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- I would move to "Ingress Protection <code/rating>". The current title is too easily confusible with IP address, and the proposed title is too easily confusible with things like mw:IPoid, so I don't think this meets the relevant part of MOS:ACROTITLE that the abbreviation is primarily associated with the subject. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:54, 20 August 2025 (UTC)

- Tom Clarke Hill → Tom Clarke-Hill (move · discuss) – missing hyphen. 2A02:C7C:4D0A:A500:C03:948B:7B92:45FB (talk) 06:04, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- There are sources using both with and without a hyphen. The primary source isn't necessarily the WP:COMMONNAME but ultimately no objections. I'm more concerned the topic isn't notable rather than the title. CNC (talk) 12:10, 20 August 2025
- When checking this, as well as trying to ensure we meet WP:NACTOR, it seems like they do meet notability, but in most of their articles I see without a hyphen. The official website does not overcome the commoname we see used in news sites reporting about the voice actor. [1] [2] [3] as well as the IMDB listing. Althought admittedly the was an interview that used the hyphenated version. TiggerJay (talk) 19:53, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- Draft:Survivor 49 → Survivor 49 (currently a redirect instead to Survivor (American TV series)) (move · discuss) – Cast has just released [4] 124.6.179.49 (talk) 22:08, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- This already has a pending AfC review, so please let that process finish, especially considering that your prior AfC review for this article was declined. TiggerJay (talk) 04:34, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- Draft:Focker In-Law → Focker In-Law (currently a redirect instead to Meet the Parents (film series)#Focker In-Law (2026)) (move · discuss) – Filming already began. KingArti (talk) 21:42, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- Can you help me understand why the article and your claim above say "filming began" where the cited reference in the article says "production began" -- there is generally a difference between "principle filming" and "production". TiggerJay (talk) 03:49, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- I've added an AFC submission template to the draft. I'd suggest that @KingArti utilise it if they think the article meets our notablity guidelines. TarnishedPathtalk 06:03, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- David Ball (electronic musician) → David Ball (musician) (currently a redirect back to David Ball (electronic musician)) (move · discuss) – Based on Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(music)#Musical_individuals_and_groups Kuragehime ଳ⋆.ೃ࿔*:・ 04:42, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Kuragehime000 The proposed name is an incomplete dab, as there are other musicians with that name. TiggerJay (talk) 04:47, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- X1 (group) → X1 (band) (currently a redirect back to X1 (group)) (move · discuss) – per updated WP:GDAB -St3095 (?) 06:37, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- @St3095 This was moved to its current title in July 2022 with justification "no one plays an instrument in the group". Please take to a full discussion. TarnishedPathtalk 11:30, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- Preston Bullants Football Club → Preston Football Club (VFL) (currently a redirect back to Preston Bullants Football Club) (move · discuss) – Club name change to Preston Football Club, not Preston Bullants Football Club, per reference. Move main article over the top of pre-existing redirect. Aspirex (talk) 10:31, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Aspirex , because there was a move discussion at Talk:Preston Bullants Football Club, we should probably have another, especially since there have been several moves in recent history. ASUKITE 14:28, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
