Education in Hungary - statistics & facts
The Hungarian education system is facing serious challenges due to the nation-wide shortage of teachers, caused by low salaries and increasing workload. In addition to teachers leaving their profession, the low number of graduates deciding to practice a pedagogical profession also contributes to the issue. In the 2023/2024 school year, approximately 164,000 teachers were employed in institutions for initial and vocational education, which represents a decrease of over 21,000 compared to the school year of 2003/2004.
