Fitness industry in Germany - Statistics & Facts
From high-tech gyms to the latest fitness wearables, Germany's fitness scene is thriving as more people embrace smart workouts and health living. In fact, according to a 2024 study, fitness was the leading type of sporting activity in Germany based on active members, ranking higher than soccer and gymnastics. Comparing the number of health and fitness club members in Europe, Germany ranked higher than Spain and France, with over 11 million people in the country owning a membership to a gym facility. The importance of an active lifestyle in the country was made even clearer in a 2024 survey conducted as part of the Statista Consumer Insights, which identified that health and fitness was in the top five most common interests in Germany.
