Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the Benelux - Statistics & Facts
The first confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the Benelux were recorded in February 2020. Since then, the virus has infected roughly 13 million people across the three countries. Indeed, as of July 21, 2022, Luxembourg reported over 278 thousand cases, whereas the Netherlands registered over 8.3 million cases and Belgium over 4.3 million cases. In Belgium, the most severely affected region was Flanders, followed by Wallonia, and lastly the region of Brussels-Capital. In contrast, most cases in the Netherlands were reported in the regions of Utrecht and Rotterdam-Rijnmond. As of July 22, 2022, the death toll caused by the COVID-19 in Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands, reached over 55 thousand.
