Hospitals in the United Kingdom are facing several significant problems, including long waiting lists, financial pressures, and workforce shortages, all exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Most UK hospitals are publicly owned and managed by the National Health Service (NHS) trusts. Financially, the NHS has seen better days, with an increasing number of NHS trusts in deficit, due mostly to rising staffing costs, operational costs, and the ending of additional funding during the pandemic. Despite the many issues such as chronic shortage of staff and long waiting times, patients are still generally satisfied with their hospital experience, with 70 percent of patients rating their hospital stay with an eight or higher on a scale of 10.
