Deloitte is a privately held company which is limited by guarantee. It is one of the largest accountancy and audit firms in the world and is included in the "Big Four" accounting/audit firms along with PricewaterhouseCooper (PwC), Ernst & Young (EY), and KPMG. The origin of the company dates back to 1845, when William Deloitte opened his first accounting office in London, England. Today, Deloitte is headquartered in New York City, and through a series of mergers is officially called Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL), but uses ‘Deloitte’ as its public brand name. The firm now operates in over 150 countries as the number of Deloitte employees worldwide reached more than 460,000 people in 2024.

Since 2009, the revenue of Deloitte worldwide has increased year-on-year and totaled roughly 67 billion U.S. dollars in 2024. Out of all of four of the firms, Deloitte had the highest revenue of the Big Four accounting/audit firms worldwide in 2023. The success of Deloitte can in part be attributed to its dominance in the Americas. Compared to the other Big Four firms, Deloitte generated almost seven billion U.S. dollars more revenue in this geographical region than the second largest of the Big Four in PwC, and more than twice as much as KPMG. The consistently high turnover of Deloitte within the American continent has been reflected in the United States, as Deloitte has routinely been the leading accounting firm by revenue in the country with the largest GDP worldwide in 2024.What does Deloitte consist of?
Deloitte offers four main service lines. The revenue of Deloitte worldwide by service line is broken down as follows: audit and enterprise risk services, consulting, tax, and financial advisory. In 2024, the largest share of these service lines was held by the consulting segment, overthrowing the audit and risk advisory service line, which consistently generated the highest annual revenue up until 2016. The consulting service line has also been the fastest growing segment held by the firm. The revenue generated by this service grew from 4.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2006 to more than 30 billion U.S. dollars in 2024. Advisory and consulting was also the highest revenue of the Big Four accounting/audit firms worldwide in 2023.
