Transport industry in Bulgaria - Statistics & Facts
Bulgaria is at the intersection of major trade routes between Europe and Asia. It connects West Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia to transport goods. As a result, Bulgaria plays an essential role in managing the flow of commerce between the various routes. This not only puts the country in a favorable position, but also supports the economy significantly. In particular, transport industry creates many job opportunities to the Bulgarians. As of 2021, around 1,799 employees worked in the Bulgarian transport industry. Although this figure was lower than the previous year's workforce, it is expected that Bulgaria will receive infrastructure funding support to modernize the transport networks throughout the country, which will result in new employment opportunities. In 2016, the share of the gross domestic product (GDP) spent on all modes of inland transport infrastructure amounted to 1.2 percent.
