In December 2021, Daimler Trucks debuted on the stock market, splitting from the Mercedes-Benz Group a few months later—in February 2022—in an attempt to dynamize both companies’ electrification and autonomous vehicle plans. In mid-2023, Mercedes-Benz—the group’s eponymous car brand—was valued at around 24 billion U.S. dollars making it the third most valuable automotive brand behind Tesla and Toyota. The manufacturer’s performance brand, Mercedes-AMG, was also among the ten fastest-growing brands by Google search in January 2023, bringing the Mercedes-Benz Group increased online visibility. This split contrasts with the automotive industry’s reliance on automotive conglomerates owning various brands— a conglomeration strategy incentivized by multiple factors.
