In 2020, the German government taxed approximately **** million cubic meters of diesel oil, to an excise duty amount just under **** billion euros. One cubic meter of diesel that year was worth around *** euros in excise taxes. Overall, both taxed quantities and tax due had dropped down between 2019 and 2020. In March 2022, the German government had put in place tax cut measures to offset the fuel price inflation brought on by the war in Ukraine.
