The Creek War of 1813-1814

The document summarizes the Creek War of 1813-1814, which occurred during the War of 1812 between the United States and Britain. Tensions had been rising between white settlers expanding into Creek territory in Georgia and Alabama, dividing the Creek Nation. A faction led by William McIntosh supported assimilation, while traditionalists opposed loss of land. In 1811, Tecumseh visited the Creeks urging pan-Indian resistance, finding receptive listeners. In 1812, some of his followers killed whites, leading the U.S. to demand punishment and further dividing the Creeks, which escalated into war between pro-U.S. and anti-U.S. factions the following year.
