Putting Numbers on Engineering’s Contribution to the Economy
America’s engineering industry has always been at the forefront of driving America’s innovation. Engineering firms design the projects that define our skyline, power our economy and foster social interaction. Their work is essential, and their impact is universal.
But during these difficult times, it’s important that industries also do their share to drive the economy to achieve sustainable American prosperity.
The ACEC Research Institute has released two landmark studies that frame, benchmark, and detail the significant positive impact engineering has on economic activity and job creation. I am excited to share them with you today.
The first study is the 2020 Engineering Industry Profile, the first true benchmarking study to define and measure the full scope of the Engineering and related design Services sector. The second report, the Engineering Industry Economic Contribution, goes deeper to reveal the industry’s direct and indirect effect on economic output and employment. In the coming weeks, the Institute will release a third study which will provide a 5-year forecast for the industry.
