FILM LAUNCH: KELP CURRENCY 🌿 Kelp forests are vital ocean ecosystems, offering shelter and food to coastal communities and thousands of marine species. Kelp forests may also play a crucial role in climate change mitigation, but their ability to absorb and store carbon dioxide remains virtually unknown. Kelp Currency features groundbreaking research from the @Seatrees Kelp Carbon Science Project and @Scripps Institution of Oceanography to measure the carbon benefits of kelp forests. Their goal is to develop a way to track kelp carbon budgets, with the hopes of unlocking new finance tools that could provide the missing funding needed to restore kelp forests globally. We first worked with the Water Talk team back in 2020, to help develop the first iteration of their brand and messaging. But 4 years later, it was time to update the brand to reflect some big achievements, including: ⁠⁠ 💧 The expansion of their storytelling beyond California 💧 Being ready for their own color palette -- no co-branding! 💧 Growing engagement with their podcast and socials ⁠ Our goal was to build a brand that reinforces their friendly conversation style and visually emphasizes their goal to build conversations, not just one-way dialogue. #WhatsInMyBag - Field edition 🪲 Ever wondered what scientists bring in their field bags? Now you can find out, thanks to ecology student Mia Kholy! This moment happened completely organically (!!!) while filming Mia for a multi-episode series on Anolis lizard evolution. The film follows students on a quest from the field to the lab, to understand the ecology and evolution of head shape across Anolis species. This film features students from Dr. Michelle Johnson's lab @TrinityU and Dr. Thom Sanger's lab @loyolachicago.
