As many have said here, the key word is "flexibility" In those moments, defining a desired outcome and then letting employees make progress towards it in a way that works for them has always been a go-to move for me. It's a triple win - the employee has the flexibility they need, the organization achieves a desired outcome, and the person has the satisfaction of having contributed to something meaningful.

I will say, during Covid19 lockdowns, where working from home was a requirement for the safety of all, I learnt a lot about soft skills and checking in your employees Mental health is something easily avoided in a work environment, and during Covid19, people were isolated and suffering from grief and trauma from those they lost. We also lost employees, and this added to the overall state. I like to check in one on one with my people..doable, depending on your direct reports. Do this in person wherever possible. Most sites have got wellness linked to them and should something require more than just a friendly check in, this can be escalated to more professional help. This help is confidential and shouldn't affect work records..
