I remember almost 15 years back i went for assignment to Lithuania and not only language was a barrier but doxuments were also in local language. And you were in audit assignment. So what next. In came google document translator for every document to try and understand, took support of a local auditor who knew little english and she helped us in iur conversation, we used sign language outside, learnt basic local words at least enbling us to move around, took an traditional old hard copy map, learnt the road sense and bus no. At the end the smile and body language helped us everywhere So we all need to find a way out

Been there. Done that. Use Google translate API. The stack works quite well especially if you install the language packs. Now with ChatGPT, this is much more easier in my opinion. However with ChatGPT, you need another AI to interpret the results based on the audience. For instance a prompt “Translate: hello I love you to Hindi” results in: “Hello, I love you” in Hindi is: “हैलो, मैं तुमसे प्यार करता हूँ” (for male speakers) “हैलो, मैं तुमसे प्यार करती हूँ” (for female speakers) Which one do you choose? 🤔 Hindi is gender specific. And of course before you push to PROD, have the translation reviewed by an expert. Trust but verify!!

When dealing with language barriers, I focus on intercultural communication by ensuring we don’t just translate but adapt messages to fit cultural nuances. I collaborate closely with local teams who understand their markets better, so our messaging feels genuine and resonates emotionally. It’s about being human—recognizing that how we communicate varies across cultures, and showing empathy by respecting those differences. Consistency comes from building a shared understanding of our values while allowing flexibility in expression, so no matter where someone is from, they feel like we're speaking directly to them.
