About
Taylor Tepper covered banking, investing and pretty much everything else in personal finance for more than a decade, with his work appearing in the New York Times, Fortune and MONEY magazine, as well as many other outlets. His work has received the recognition of his peers, including winning a Loeb award for his piece on the high cost of mental illness, and he completed the education requirement for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification.
Taylor Tepper got his start in journalism covering local issues in St. Petersburg, Florida for the Tampa Bay Times before earning a Masters from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York, where he specialized in business reporting and was awarded the Frederic Wiegold Prize for Business Journalism in part for his thesis on the perils of investing.
While at CUNY, he interned for NPR’s Planet Money (where he detailed the underwhelming salary of Lebron James) and covered currencies for Bloomberg News before landing a staff writer position at MONEY Magazine.
It was at MONEY where he cemented his love of personal finance. He led the magazine’s coverage of banking, investing and credit cards and, in 2017, won several awards for his story on the high costs of mental illness.
From there he became the lead investing writer at Bankrate, and then the senior writer at Wirecutter. While at Wirecutter, he also wrote pieces for the New York Times about savings and debt behavior.
In 2020, he joined Forbes Advisor as a senior staff writer before helming the banking coverage at USA TODAY Blueprint as a lead editor for the past two years before rejoining Forbes Advisor.
During this time, he also fulfilled the education requirement for a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification.
