Abstract
One of the most critical aspects of any company, and certainly one of the most concerning is product/process quality, safety and compliance to internal and external regulations. As more and more organizations are beginning to outsource portions of or all of their manufacturing operations, this makes the interaction with Suppliers very critical and one that currently does not get the required attention, especially, when it comes to managing the compliance, quality and safety requirements. Studies have shown that companies that develop and execute a proactive model of communication and collaboration with their supply base find they have: • Material compliance to regulations to be certain that the designed products are able to be sold in the relevant regions and bought from relevant regions • Centralized database to maintain the required documentation to support the material compliance • Decision Tree Support to maintain consistency in the regulatory assessments • Better visibility into suppliers quality issues & their performance • Uncover and remove hidden cost drivers • Increase competitive advantage by reducing order cycle times and inventory • Gain insight on how to best leverage their supply base • Align practices between themselves and their suppliers • Compliance goals are reached faster with minimal to no surprises • More than a 20% improvement in supplier performance metrics

Purpose -There have been many studies on topics related to supplier relationship management (SRM), namely purchasing strategy, supplier selection and development, and collaboration with suppliers. However, these studies have not suggested a solution based on an integrative concept, as they focus only on domain-specific problems. To overcome this limitation, the purpose of this present paper is to suggest a framework for an integrative SRM system by analyzing comprehensive approaches to overall SRM functions. Design/methodology/approach -The paper reviewed and analyzed studies related to SRM from an integrative viewpoint, proposed a framework for an integrative SRM system, and performed a case study based on the analytical hierarchy process with a field survey. Findings -The paper expects that the proposed framework can play a major role in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of SRM by adopting an integrative concept because the functions of SRM are highly interrelated. Furthermore, it verifies the applicability of the framework via a case study. Research limitations/implications -Not many approaches are available for organizing evaluators or evaluation sheets, which are used for selecting criteria, providing weight, and evaluating supplier performance, that can secure objectivity of the evaluation; thus, when applying this framework to the industry, special consideration is needed. Practical implications -The proposed framework allows the purchasing members to scrutinize key features of SRM before and during the SRM system operation. Originality/value -The paper provides useful knowledge about the role of SRM systems by holistically approaching SRM-related processes while suggesting criteria and recommendations to a purchasing manager.

Supply Chain Management (SCM) plays a crucial role for firms striving to maintain competitiveness amidst numerous competitors. In the contemporary business landscape, firms enhance their competitiveness by efficiently relying on their supply chain Moreover, an effective and efficient supply chain has become a vital and valuable means for staying vigilant in the evolving and competitive global business environment, contributing to overall organizational performance improvement. The term "supplier-manufacturer partnership" refers to the relationship established when a manufacturer and supplier mutually agree to collaborate based on a specific contract. This research study is quantitative in nature with population in the vicinity of Rawalpindi & Islamabad working either as manufacturer of goods or are providing the services or in the service business. Simple random sampling technique has been utilized in cross-sectional time horizon. SPSS version 22.0 was used as statistical software to carry out the analysis. The findings suggest that a stronger partnership correlates with improved supply chain performance. Furthermore, the statistical tests conducted in this research underscored the significance of business value addition, communication and trust as the most influential factors contributing to enhanced supply chain performance and overall profitability. The study also unveiled that the partnership strongly affects information flow. Moreover, when information is effectively managed, and its quality is enhanced, it fosters strong partner relations, ultimately leading to improved supply chain effectiveness and heightened performance.

In the supplier evaluation process, companies focus on comparing performances. The literature offers various analysis methods, although the matrices used are often subjective and difficult to implement in practice. This article aims to develop an easily implementable model, aimed at meeting the company's need to identify suitable suppliers for integration projects. Integration involves establishing close collaboration and cooperation between suppliers and customers with the goal of reduced inventory levels, shorter delivery times, and improved customer service. Thanks to the collaboration of a sample of companies, a new model is proposed. Our research is structured in three phases: identification of parameters for supplier evaluation; creation of the matrix; evaluation of the satisfaction level reported by the companies that have used the model. A comparison matrix between ABC classes and a multi-criteria supplier evaluation index allow the company to define a set of suppliers with a high probability of integration. This practical approach has been implemented in approximately 23 companies, and the level of satisfaction reported is high because it demonstrates greater rationality in supplier evaluation.

This paper evaluates whether ISO certification enables a supplier to become an extended resource in a specific sector. The evaluation consisted of a statistical analysis of data from 90 suppliers to a wind turbine manufacturer. The suppliers were selected, evaluated and audited as extended resources from a resource-based view (RBV). We test the differences that the qualified suppliers exhibit in main ISO processes and we identify specific areas that will improve supplier relationships. We also demonstrate significant differences exist when the level of technology the supplier uses is taken into account. Our results may well be applicable in a wider manufacturing processes context. We determine that ISO certification alone is not enough to cement a positive relationship in an upstream supply chain environment, despite such relationships being crucial to the success of a business, and support the use of a wider sector-specific certification tool that goes beyond ISO certification.

Purpose. Large system suppliers play an important role in globalization both in the emerging information and communications technology (ICT) and matured engineering fields. This article addresses the management mechanisms through which these suppliers try to expand their original role toward the role of a solution provider. The role expansion is examined by exploring what capabilities do the roles of equipment/material supplier and solution provider require and (2) how can the equipment/material supplier achieve the role of a solution provider?

Many academics and practitioners have alluded to the importance of total quality management (TQM) principles and the important role the purchasing function plays in the quality process. However, the role of the buyer-supplier relationship in the TQM process has not been directly investigated to any large extent. Three hypotheses concerning the role of buyer-supplier relationships in the success of TQM implementation were tested. The results demonstrate that buyer-supplier relationships are different in firms with successful TQM programs. Hypothesis 1 suggests that those firms with successful TQM programs will have more formal mechanisms for interacting with suppliers. The second hypothesis suggests that business units with more successful TQM programs exhibit a greater degree of competitive focus and single sourcing. The third hypothesis relates to a higher level understanding of internal and external customer needs by successful TQM adopters. All hypotheses were supported. The buyer-supplier relationships in firms with successful TQM programs are different than firms with less successful TQM programs.

In this paper the analysis is drawn on the motivations, modalities and consequences of supplier involvement in automotive component design. Outsourcing decisions affect the set of core competencies of buyer and supplier and, given certain circumstances, induce a migration of competencies from OEMs to suppliers. An in-depth exploratory multiple case study on a major European car maker and two of its suppliers revealed that this migration of competencies should not threaten the leadership of car makers within the supply chain if it is associated with (1) a strong competence of the car maker as system integrator and (2) a new way of conceiving supply chain management.
