Speech from the Throne

Randy Hoback, MP (Prince Albert)
Biography
pdf version

Randy Hoback is the Member of Parliament for federal constituency of Prince Albert. He was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and grew up and attended school in Canwood, Saskatchewan. He holds a business administration certificate through the University of Saskatchewan and Chartered Director's designation (C. Dir.), which he completed through McMaster University and the Conference Board of Canada.

Randy began his career with farm machinery manufacturer Flexicoil in 1986.  His hard work and focus eventually led him to the positions of territorial marketing manager in southern Alberta and eastern Saskatchewan.  He was promoted to international marketing development manager with responsibility for Western Europe.

In 1997, Flexicoil was sold to Case New Holland, where Randy continued to work until 2000. Although employed for 14 years in the farm machinery business, Randy always maintained an interest in the family’s farm. Randy purchased his family’s farm in 2000 and expanded it to 3300 acres.  He also established a custom spraying and trucking business.  In 2005, Randy was nominated for the Saskatchewan Outstanding Young Farmer Award.

Randy firmly believes in supporting farm organizations which benefit the growth of agriculture in Canada.  He has served as President of Can Ag Ventures, a community venture which built a 20,000 head feedlot and ethanol plant.  He also represented the Rural Municipality of Canwood as the agent to the Agriculture Producer Association of Saskatchewan.  Randy also served as the former Chairman of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association (WCWGA), where he represented the organization at World Trade Organization talks in Geneva and Hong Kong.

Randy has worked closely with many farm organizations such as the Canadian Agri-Food Trade Association, the Grain Growers of Canada, the Western Barley Growers, the Canadian Canola Growers, the Alberta Barley and Grain Commission, the Western Grain Elevator Association, the Canola Council of Canada, the Canadian Grain Commission and the Canadian Wheat Board.  This experience eventually led Randy to Ottawa, where he served as a Special Advisor to the Parliamentary Secretary for the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister of the Canadian Wheat Board.

As a Parliamentarian, Randy is a member of both the House of Commons Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-food, and the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs.

In March 2010, Randy was elected Chair of the Canadian Section of Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Americas (FIPA) – an organization committed to promoting parliamentary participation in the inter-American system and to developing inter-parliamentary dialogue on issues of importance to the hemisphere. FIPA seeks to encourage the sharing of experiences and best practices amongst its members, and works to strengthen the role of legislatures in democratic development and to promote harmonization of legislation and hemispheric integration as instruments of sustainable and harmonious development in the region.

Randy is married, and strongly supported by his wife, Jerri.  Randy and Jerri have two children -Alysia who is now working in Calgary, and Brock who is presently studying Commerce at the University of Ottawa.

Randy is a strong, new, and yet experienced voice for the riding of Prince Albert.
