Randy Hoback is the Member of
Parliament for federal constituency of Prince Albert. He
was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and grew up and attended
school in Canwood, Saskatchewan. He holds a business
administration certificate through the University of
Saskatchewan and Chartered Director's designation (C.
Dir.), which he completed through McMaster University
and the Conference Board of Canada.
Randy began his career with farm machinery manufacturer
Flexicoil in 1986. His hard work and focus
eventually led him to the positions of territorial
marketing manager in southern Alberta and eastern
Saskatchewan. He was promoted to international
marketing development manager with responsibility for
Western Europe.
In 1997, Flexicoil was sold to Case New Holland, where
Randy continued to work until 2000. Although employed
for 14 years in the farm machinery business, Randy
always maintained an interest in the family’s farm.
Randy purchased his family’s farm in 2000 and expanded
it to 3300 acres. He also established a custom
spraying and trucking business. In 2005, Randy was
nominated for the Saskatchewan Outstanding Young Farmer
Award.
Randy firmly believes in supporting farm organizations
which benefit the growth of agriculture in Canada.
He has served as President of Can Ag Ventures, a
community venture which built a 20,000 head feedlot and
ethanol plant. He also represented the Rural
Municipality of Canwood as the agent to the Agriculture
Producer Association of Saskatchewan. Randy also served
as the former Chairman of the Western Canadian Wheat
Growers Association (WCWGA), where he represented the
organization at World Trade Organization talks in Geneva
and Hong Kong.
Randy has worked closely with many farm organizations
such as the Canadian Agri-Food Trade Association, the
Grain Growers of Canada, the Western Barley Growers, the
Canadian Canola Growers, the Alberta Barley and Grain
Commission, the Western Grain Elevator Association, the
Canola Council of Canada, the Canadian Grain Commission
and the Canadian Wheat Board. This experience
eventually led Randy to Ottawa, where he served as a
Special Advisor to the Parliamentary Secretary for the
Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Minister of
the Canadian Wheat Board.
As a Parliamentarian, Randy is a member of both the
House of Commons Standing Committee on Agriculture and
Agri-food, and the Standing Committee on Procedure and
House Affairs.
In March 2010, Randy was elected
Chair of the Canadian Section of Inter-Parliamentary
Forum of the Americas (FIPA) – an organization
committed to promoting parliamentary participation in
the inter-American system and to developing
inter-parliamentary dialogue on issues of importance to
the hemisphere. FIPA seeks to encourage the sharing of
experiences and best practices amongst its members, and
works to strengthen the role of legislatures in
democratic development and to promote harmonization of
legislation and hemispheric integration as instruments
of sustainable and harmonious development in the region.
Randy is married, and strongly
supported by his wife, Jerri. Randy and Jerri have
two children -Alysia who is now working in Calgary, and
Brock who is presently studying Commerce at the
University of Ottawa.
Randy is a strong, new, and yet experienced voice for
the riding of Prince Albert.
