The Kentucky Horse Park Foundation presents
Southern Lights: Spectacular Sights on Holiday Nights
at the Kentucky Horse Park
November 17 – December 31, 2006
5:30 – 10:00 PM
Once a year, there comes a time when hearts of all ages have the opportunity to grow young, when laughter waits just below the surface to bubble forth and wonder shines in the most jaded of eyes....
Come to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky and share this wondrous season with us at Southern Lights, where a spectacle of thousands of twinkling lights awaits you. In those lights you will see Kentucky's famous Thoroughbred race horses streak towards the finish line and see Cinderella doff her rags and drive to the ball.
Guests to Southern Lights begin their evening by taking a 3-mile driving tour through lavish displays reminding visitors of the splendor and traditions of the season. Brightly lit arches and snowflakes guide visitors along the route between animated displays of Keeneland racecourse, show jumping, steeplechase and the spires of Churchill Downs. Lifelike horses on all sides depict the majesty and beauty of the pride of the Bluegrass.
Visitors then leave their cars and begin Southern Lights Indoor Section - first stop, the petting zoo of exotic animals in the big white tent in the main parking lot. The animals, normally found in tropical climates, have been raised locally and are accustomed to Kentucky winters. Enter the warm and inviting Visitor Information Center and be greeted by our Talking Tree! The lobby, decorated in holiday splendor, is the perfect backdrop for a wide range of wonderful performers, who offer their musical talents and skills to entertain visitors to Southern Lights in a relaxed atmosphere. The Kentucky Horse Park Gift Shop is full of special holiday gifts, both equine-related and non-equine items. Shoppers can also shop from Kentucky crafters including jewelry, dolls, ceramics, hats, paintings, candles, floral arrangements and more.
Take the "Mini-Train Express" and travel in style to the Visitor Information Center and the Museum. This appealing train with great personality welcomes young and old alike!
The unique International Museum of the Horse is also open until December 23 (closed Thanksgiving). Southern Lights also brings special exhibits including the Bluegrass Railway Club’s model train display and Santa Claus.
Southern Lights Spectacular Sights on Holiday Nights has been designed to appeal to every age group. It represents what Kentucky's famous Bluegrass region has to offer in southern hospitality, horses and holiday cheer. We proudly announce that it has been designated a Top Twenty Event by the Southeast Tourism Society.
