Research experience contributes to the strong foundation that Ohio Wesleyan
students build for their futures. There are many opportunities to conduct
original research -- beginning as early as the freshman year, students
learn key research techniques and develop familiarity with professional-caliber
scientific equipment and peer-reviewed research literature. This practice
brings a level of understanding and expertise that proves invaluable in
their graduate studies and their careers. Science students have summer research opportunities at major research
universities, hospitals, and government agencies. Former students have
joined research teams at the Mayo Clinic,
Duke University, and Emory University; worked at The
National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Ohio
Division of Wildlife; and conducted research across the country and
internationally, from France to Borneo.

it at OWU. Many academic programs have ongoing experiential opportunities
for students. Apprenticeships and internships enable students to test
their interest in the field while diversifying their background. From
campus to Caracas, internship opportunities are facilitated by alumni
and faculty professional contacts and by the success of previous OWU interns. The New York Arts Program
» For more than 30 years, Ohio Wesleyan students have participated
in the highly respected arts apprenticeship program in New York City.
Fine arts, theatre, and English majors most often take this opportunity
to spend a semester apprenticing with professional artists or organizations. Wesleyan in Washington Program » Through the Arneson
Institute for Practical Politics and Public Affairs, OWU offers
students an unusual full-time internship opportunity in the nation's capital.
In the past, students have interned at the National
Endowment for the Arts, CNN, and
the White House.

an in-depth knowledge of the culture of Spain and master the language
through courses in Spanish language, history, literature, art, and film. Other Destinations » OWU students often choose to study in
Aberdeen, Scotland, through a program approved by the Great Lakes
Colleges Association. Students interested in France have a number
of options for study abroad, including universities in Paris and
Strasbourg. Study opportunities in Germany include Heidelberg
University, Dresden
University of Technology, and the Rhine-Westphalia
Institute for Economic Research of Essen. Opportunities to
study in East Asia include the Japan Program at Waseda
