(SYDNEY, 4 April, 2000) – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is launching the GSM version of its ground-breaking MP3 mobile phone. Ideally suited to both the youth and business markets, the MP3 phone combines a compact Samsung GSM wireless handset with an MP3-player and includes a 32MB flash memory chip to give storage for music or data files.
For the businessman on the move, a 32MB data storage function allows data files such as Excel and MS Word to be downloaded from a PC and stored; the files can then be retrieved simply by connecting another PC with the MP3 phone.
The SGH-M100 is available in metallic silver, (highly popular with the youth market) and allows users to download their favourite songs from the Internet and listen to high-quality music wherever they maybe. Using ¡°ripping software¡± which can be obtained from the Internet, music or foreign language lessons from CDs or tapes can be converted into an MP3 files. The handset can store approximately up to eight songs or 25 minutes of foreign language lessons and features all the functions of a regular MP3 player and SGH-A100.
For incoming calls, press the call button on the earphone to connect. The handset can also be set so that no calls come in. A beep signals an incoming call while the user is listening to music. When the call is finished the user automatically returns to the point at which the music was stopped. The MP3 dedicated key enables users to access the MP3 player easily.
Samsung Electronics has applied sophisticated design technology and component integration to make the unit a super-slim 19.3mm and an ultra-light 97g. The MP3 phone will be available in the European market in the second quarter of this year.
(The CDMA version of its MP3 mobile phone(SCH-M105) also shows at ATUG2000)
