Evil star Mike Colter is back in business with creators Robert and Michelle King now that their new show Cupertino has been added to CBS's 2026-2027 lineup. After starring as Marvel's Luke Cage on Netflix, as well as in Jessica Jones and The Defenders, Colter joined the cast of Evil, which aired from 2019 to 2024, first on CBS and later on Paramount+. It was announced back in August that he had signed on to star in the Kings' new show.

CBS has now formally picked up a new TV show for next season called Cupertino from creators and showrunners Robert and Michelle King, who are also on board as executive producers and writers. Colter, who previously starred in the Kings' show Evil, has been cast in the lead role. The pilot episode will be directed by Robert King.

In the legal drama Cupertino, which has been described as a "David vs. Goliath story," Colter stars as a lawyer who represents victims of the tech industry after he loses out on his stock options by a former employer in Silicon Valley. CBS previously ordered 13 scripts to be written for Cupertino.

Along with Colter, Evil starred Katja Herbers, Aasif Mandvi, Kurt Fuller, and Michael Emerson. The creepy series followed a team that set out to investigate supernatural occurrences. Colter played a Catholic priest and former war journalist.

Colter's history with the Kings reaches back well before Evil, though. The actor appeared in recurring and guest role capacities in The Good Wife and The Good Fight.

The Kings also have a long history with CBS. The first show they created for the network was The Good Wife, the legal and political drama starring Julianna Margulies that ran for seven seasons.

After their show BrainDead was canceled after one season by CBS, they teamed up for Good Wife spinoff The Good Fight with Christine Baranski, which streamed on Paramount+. The Kings returned to the main CBS network for a second Good Wife spinoff called Elsbeth, starring Carrie Preston. Elsbeth season 3 is currently airing.

A lot of the Kings' shows tend to revolve around the legal world, so Cupertino fits perfectly with the rest of their filmography. Teaming back up with Colter will bring in fans of Evil and The Good Wife, as well as the fan base he developed from starring in multiple Marvel shows.

While TV viewers won't find out CBS's 2026-2027 schedule until the middle of 2026, the network is already deep into planning the upcoming year. Aside from Cupertino, Einstein and Ghosts have already been announced as airing next season.

The creators of Evil will be spending the next several months developing, writing and filming their new show so that CBS has another hit on its hands.
