Abstract

793,890. Seats. TAN-SAD CHAIR CO. (1931), Ltd. Nov. 19, 1956 [Feb. 23, 1956], No. 5637/56. Class 52(2) A chair back rest wherein the stem b supporting the back rest is slidable and tiltable with respect to the seat is fixed in position by a clamp which is fixed and released by means of a rockable member having a toggle link connection permitting of an overcentre fixing. The seat has at its rear parallel blades a supporting parts c<SP>1</SP>, c<SP>2</SP>, of a clamp, having a dovetail interlocking engagement c' and slidable and rockable by virtue of a slot c<SP>4</SP> engaging a transverse pin c<SP>5</SP> slidable in slots a<SP>1</SP> in members a. Part c<SP>1</SP> has teeth c<SP>6</SP> engageable with a serrated member d fixedly mounted between blades a by means of pins d<SP>1</SP>, d<SP>2</SP> and a toggle link e connects d<SP>2</SP> with the pin f<SP>1</SP> carried by a channel shaped rocking member f pivoted outside members a by pin c<SP>5</SP>, the arrangement being such that when member f is forced downwardly over a dead centre the parts of the clamp are forced together and on to member d to lock stem b at the desired height and inclination. In a modification (Fig. 3) a trigger g, having a nose g<SP>3</SP> engageable with a cam d' on member d, is provided and has a finger operable part g<SP>1</SP>.
