514,190. Vacuum cleaners ; bearings. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 21, 1938, No. 37223. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1937. [Class 8 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A rotary agitator in the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner is driven by a belt 34 from the fan-driving mechanism, and its bearing housings 30 are pressed by the belt into resilient segmental seats 27 carried by arms 26 on a rock shaft pivoted on pins 24 and having an offset middle portion 36 which clears the belt. The agitator can be placed in or out of contact with the floor by a handle 37 passing through the cleaner casing and held in adjustable position by notches thereon.
