In a shirt hanger with a centre portion 1 housing a spring 4 which urges apart end portions 8 the inner ends (10) of parts 8 each have a resilient tongue (11) which slides in a longitiudinal slot 6 in centre portion 1 and carries an abutment 12 the tongue being resilient to permit assembly. In a modification the end portion contains a metal rail provided with a tongue.
