A descriptive cross-sectional survey was employed for this research. The study was conducted in the Kwahu East district of Ghana during August 2017 to December 2017. A stratified sampling technique was employed to select 200 respondents for this study. Respondents were interviewed using prepared and validated questionnaires. Data obtained from the completed questionnaires were analysed by using the statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The community people including school-going children, covered long distances and stayed in long queues to access water. They, however, spend long time in accessing water for their use in homes during the dry season. Durations respondents (n= 200) used in accessing water and returning to their homes were as follows: Approximately 15 minutes (10%); 20 minutes (16%); 35 minutes (...

The logit model was used to determine the dynamics of social media on the academic performance of students in private tertiary institutions in Ghana. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences and STATA were the tools employed for coding and analysis. Questionnaires were created using Google forms and administered to 900 participants. The results revealed that hours spent by students at the library have reduced drastically. It is worth noting that whether students spend less or more time on social media, their academic performance worsened. This situation was explained by students spending more time on social media for networking and not for academic purposes. Two reasons can be given for such poor performance, that is, whether students are just not able to use the social med...

There has been an outcry for the government to find ways to help curb this problem as mining companies in the country might become uncompetitive or even fold up if not checked. This study investigates the impact that corporate income tax has on profitability of mining companies in Ghana using ten years data from the year 2005 to 2014 with a sample of the only two listed mining firms on the Stock Exchange as at the time of the study. Return on assets was used as proxy for profitability as against corporate income tax which is the independent variable whereas company size, liquidity, leverage and growth were considered as control variables. The regression results showed that corporate income tax negatively influences profitability; whereas company size positively associates with profitability and liquidity, leverage and growth negatively impac...

The study targeted the entire population of ten people that were into the production of seed maize. Data for the study were collected using structured questionnaires and interviews. Descriptive analytical tools were employed in the analyses of data and budgetary techniques and income statements used to estimate the profit level of seed maize production. Sensitivity analysis was further used. The results showed that males were dominant in the production of seed maize in the district. The major source of finance was through borrowing. Groundwater from hand- dug wells is major source of drinking water for majority of the rural populace. This study assesses selected chemical water quality parameters in hand- dug wells and pipe borne water in Begoro, in the Fanteakwa District. Water quality parameters including, chloride, nitrate, total hardness, and fluoride, were analyzed in water samples from 5 hand dug wells and pipe-borne water in Begoro community, using argentometric titration, Spectrometric, colorimetric, and titration methods. The results were compared with the World Health Organization (WHO) standards for drinking water quality. Water in hand dug wells were moderately soft with values ranging from 51.0 to 89.0mg/l; while Pipe borne water was 50.0mg/l. Nitrate concentrations in some hand dug wells and pipe borne water in the community were within acceptable levels (10.5-16.0mg/l;7.3mg/l). Fluori...

They are diverse in terms of habitat, biota, distribution, functions and uses. Many wetlands have lost their pristine quality and have been transformed to modified ecosystems, but their salient role in the ecosystem function cannot be replaced. Over exploitation due to developmental activities and over dependents on their values for livelihood are threatening their existence. Presently, there are five sites with a surface area 178,410 hectares designated as wetlands of international importance, in Ghana. These sites are located in the strategic area of the country which includes the

Restraint devices such as handcuffs used by selected security agency from three (3) Police Stations in Accra were investigated for bacterial contamination. Five (5) handcuffs including two (2) slightly used ones, two (2) frequently used ones and one (1) sealed unused handcuff was purposely selected for the study. The presence and quantity of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and total coliforms on the handcuffs were measured. The Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and coliforms showed positive on all the four (4) used handcuffs but were not found on the sealed, unused handcuff. There was mor e contamination on frequently used handcuffs than slightly used ones. The presence and quantity of bacterial contaminants indicated Staphylococc us aureus (64%), Escherichia coli (8%) and total coliforms (28%). This shows that, used handcuffs harbour pathogenic bacteria, and could serve as...
