The study explores the effect of Board Size and Ownership Structure attributes of corporate gover... more The study explores the effect of Board Size and Ownership Structure attributes of corporate governance on financial performance of Deposit Money Banks (DMB) financial performance in Nigeria. Panel Data were collected from the published Annual Reports of 16 quoted/listed DMB in Nigeria for the period 2011-2015. Operationalizing Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Capital Employed (ROCE) as the dependent variables while Board Size and Ownership Structure are the independent variables. The study discovered that board size has a negative effect on both ROA and ROCE though not statistically significant and the other dependent variable of ownership structure indicate a positive effect on ROA and a negative effect on ROCE. The study therefore, recommends that regulators to developed, consolidate and review as the need arises, a robust and all-inclusive corporate governance framework.

Transportation of natural gas is a very important aspect of the oil and gas industry and as such,... more Transportation of natural gas is a very important aspect of the oil and gas industry and as such, it must be done with a much efficiency. Pipelines have been recognized as the most economic, effective and safest way of transporting natural gas. A lot of capital is needed, due to cost of pipeline, compressor stations and also in its maintenance. Therefore, in order to minimize cost, optimization of gas transportation process is necessary. In this study, optimization procedure of gas transportation network was developed using Successive Quadratic Programming algorithm, (SQP), in ASPEN PLUS software v8.8 using FORTRAN code. It determines the optimum economic diameter for which gas can be transported through series of pipelines. This study looks at how gender diversity (particularly women representation) affect performance of Nigerian banks from 2011 to 2015. The population and sample is made up of 16 (sixteen) banks listed on Nigerian Stock Exchange within the period. Board gender diversity was operationalized using 3 variables (that is women on board- WOB; women on board percentage-WBF; and presence of female chief executive- CEO) which formed the independent variables while financial performance has 2 variables (return on asset- ROA and return on equity- ROE). The serious decline in the price of crude oil in recent years has led the federal government to l... more The serious decline in the price of crude oil in recent years has led the federal government to look for new sources of revenue and becomes strict and aggressive to the assessment and collection of revenue from other sources. This study examines the impact of Corporate Governance Attributes on Tax planning of listed Nigerian Conglomerate companies. The corporate governance parameters include board size and CEO tenure while tax planning is proxied by the effective tax rate and firm size as control variable. The objective is to determine the relationship between corporate governance attributes and tax planning which in turn may improve firm performance. The study adopts ex-post facto research design and utilized panel data from annual reports and accounts of the listed companies for the period of five years (2014-2018). The Data were analyzed using a panel regression technique to assess the effect of the independent variables on the dependent variable. Hausman specification test was conducted to choose between fixed and random effect estimation and the pvalue is 0.9863 which insignificant. Therefore, results from random effect estimation model was interpreted which indicates a negative and significant relationship between CEOT, FSIZE and ETR and a positive relationship between BSIZE and ETR. Therefore, the study concludes that corporate governance mechanism plays a significant role in tax planning of listed Nigerian Conglomerate Companies.

This paper appraises internet usage for educational purpose by social and management students in ... more This paper appraises internet usage for educational purpose by social and management students in public universities and polytechnics in Adamawa state. The study administered seven hundred and twenty questionnaires to one thousand and eighty seven students’ final year students using simple random sampling technique out of which five hundred and ten were returned and analysed.The data collected was analysed using Microsoft Excel statistical package. Result of the study shows that students depend a lot on their mobile devices for internet access and also education and entertainment usage ranked high in their usage of internet time. The study recommended that institutions of higher learning should incorporate internet usage knowledge in their computer and information technology related courses, the study equally recommends the introduction of E-learning facilities like tablet to the students of social and management sciences.
